You know that if you are to be a detectorist.....You gotta have imagination! ;D

Well I seem to have a really good imagination so I fit right in! After all the whatsit's finds from yesterday one really had me intrigued. It's the chain looking find at the top of the picture from yesterday's post. I spent so much time thinking about it that I went to the basement last night and brought it up to the kitchen sink and let it soak all night. Got up this morning and began cleaning it. Started off with a tooth brush....waste of time. Went to the sturdy wire brush and a little better but not much. Then I thought about how some of you clean your relics with the Dremmil tool. ;D So....I thought.....hubby's got one of those in the basement! After spending the next couple of hours and 'using up' a few of those gadgets (sorry honey) :-* ...I finally decided that I had myself a broken set of handcuffs! Wow! My first to find! And then I got to thinking.....wonder how these got there? Was it from an outlaw running from the sheriff.....chain gang escapee....or has my imagination just up and run away with me! :D

Handcuffs? ??? What do ya think? ???

;)

Wow that is a nice job cleaning those things!! I wonder what kind of story was behind them ::) Could it have been from a slave? Or was there any record of prisoners helping to build something there?

;D Thank ya! ?;D ?....I'm gonna have to get to Home Depot before hubby sees what all I destroyed in that little set! ?:D

I don't have a clue why they would be there? Never expected to find handcuffs or shackles! ?:D When I go back I'll ask the owner of the property if he might know....

? ? ? ? ? ? ? Thanks!

? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?;) ? ? ? ?

NANA, Shackles, Chain Too Long For Hand Cuffs. I Believe You Have A Relic of Slavery, Have Found The Same Here In Charleston. Sad But True. trk5capt...

Strange you new there was more to that chain. WTG You have a neat find Nana. HH Burdie

Nana,

neat artifact. Must be a lot of history behind it. That is one you could think for
hours about. Who? What? Where?

Nice find, good clean up.

have a good un.............

Oh my goodness ya'll! How would you ever know who or what?

And Gold....they weren't in the water...they were in the field that I found the arrowhead. I thought I might take a quick look-see for some arrows while detecting before heading for home. Gosh....that would be an aweful way to die! :'(

i think slave shackles had a different type of locking mechanism. they could be though. man! what an amazing piece of history if they are! more research is definatly in order. i hope they are though........they could be worth some $$ to a collector.

Nanners, It's amazing what you uncovered under that rusty crusty. Good intuition. Neat find.

Another awesome find. :o Keep up the good work (play), Nana

Dang Nana! I think you taught us all an important lesson - don't be so quick to dismiss something as junk. Good detective work!

? ? I'm sure they have, but this is the first time I've ever known of anybody digging them up.
They look a little small to be fitting around an ankle. But people generally ?were a little smaller back.then. So who's to say. ? Really neat find!!!! ?You think the other cuff could still be there?
Might be worth a look see. ? ? WTG!!! ? ? ? ? ? ?HH
