Had a Great Day!!! Hunted with Jimmy D also. Ended up finding a 1952 Franklin Half, a Merc, and a Silver Rosie, and a handful of Wheats. I got wore out today digging all these holes. Congrats on the silver, especially that half. Looks like a hot spot.

Nice Haul RJ

View attachment 1921200Looks like the old button is from around 1901.

In my opinion that fleabay offering of the golfing button is spurious and the item shown is not a “1901 Original”, but a modern fashion button aimed at golf enthusiasts. The London Badge & Button company has only existed under that name since 1973, specialising in fashion buttons.

The design of the button (yours and the fleabay item) is based on that formerly used by the famous Royal Blackheath Club, although they haven’t used it for a considerable time. It had no copyright protection and has been widely reproduced over the years for golfers with no relationship to the club itself. Some buttons include a date of 1745 which is also spurious, since it represents the earliest date where there is evidence for foundation of the Royal Blackheath.

Your button is likely to be somewhat older than the fleabay offering but difficult to date except from type of construction and/or backmark (if present) but sadly not much hope of that for your find.

nice haul! Love that Franklin........

Excellent hunt. Nice keepers! Thanks for sharing, HH ALL.

Thanks for the info Red-Coat. I just posted the clearest pic . Yes the one I posted from Fleabay looks much newer. Still a cool example minus the back side. :)

Great silver finds! And congratulations on all those wheaties! You got a lot of other nice finds, too. Thanks for sharing.
