Yesterday I tried my Ace 250 in the front yard around the sidewalks for about 30 minutes. Found 2 more pennies, but I got signals in 5 places...2 pennies, 2 whatzits and one where I didn't find anything. Seeing as how it was my yard, it's not necessary to head anywhere to detect after work!~ WOOHOO! A good deal what with the shortness of the days. Now, if I can only get up the nerve to put on my big coil and see what it can do. I figure I'll do the yard with the regular coil first, then go back over it with the big coil. That ought to keep me busy for a couple of weeks. :D

Now, my question: Does anyone here worry about reaching down and grabbing hold of an old razor blade? There was one post today that had something that kind of looked like one and it got the thoughts turned this way.

I've never grabbed hold of a razor, but I have sliced myself up on glass bits that were buried near targets. Best advice, other than wearing gloves, which I find hampers me, is to look sharp before you dive in.

? ? Fifteen years ago I lived in a duplex that was NOT in the finest neighborhood of Everett, WA. While detecting the yard I found numerous hypodermic needles. I've also sliced a finger pretty good on a piece of glass while scraping the bottom of a dug hole looking for a coin. So I think it is wise to be careful while rooting around in the ground. Pull tabs and cut up pieces of an aluminum can are pretty sharp too.

I've dug a few razor blades, dug one 2 weeks ago at a drained lake, in the swim area. It's always a good idea to wear gloves while detecting and retreiving the targets. I have two pairs of leather gloves and they fit like a glove, thin but offer some protection. They say farm fields are the worst place for tetnius, my favorite place to detect, darn it! HH, Mike

i have cut myself twice in 2 years by glass.i have found a couple of old razors but they have never bit me.........yet.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. Looks like a pinpointer and a pair of thin gloves are next purchases.

thanks for the post. im always worried about getting sabbed by a rusty nail now this.... I guess i should get some gloves to...

I usually pry up the goodie with my jobby thingy :P, then gingerly pull up what ever it is. Worse injury I've caused myself so far was poking myself with my jobby thingy while feverishly sticking it in the ground!! >:( :'(

Happy Hunting,

Think Positive: Go get a tetanus shot. They're usually free at the health clinics. Then you're set for five years. And add a bottle of hydrogen peroxide to your kit. I am so accident prone, I try to stay ahead of the game. In the past six months I've cracked my kneecap, been pecked in the eye, and broken my foot bowling. If it's going to happen to anyone close by, it will be me. That's why I told my husband we weren't going to get any cows to go on our 100 acres because as soon as we did, Mad Cow disease would hit Louisiana. So, we compromised and got ... chickens. ::) Bird Flu should be announced any day ... >:(

ROFLMAO!!

If it wasn't for bad luck, you wouldn't have any luck at all, it seems like! ::)

Hey TX, I always wear gloves. You can pick a great pair up at home depot. they are called Firm Grip. Light weight and fit great. They have saved me a number of times. As far as the tetnus shot goes, my wife (a nurse) gave me two options, Get a tetnus shot or double my life insurance. The tetnus shot was cheaper. (and she is usually right about medical things). Take care...Lance

Well, since you asked.... I hunted the same old yard from my last post for 1 hour after work again today until it got dark. My best find, a rusty razor blade!!! I found another earlier this year and made a post about sharp and pointy things. Both of mine sounded like they might be a nice coin too. Be careful out there.

I was wood chipping a playground and had something deep and in an area where the chips were piled deep. Moving the wood chips away was easy because they were loose but I sliced open a finger when I found the shreaded aluminum can. Never had a problem in dirt with glass but have dug a lot of glass.
