AND THE " I's" HAVE IT!!!!!!!! (3 Confederate Script I's & 1820s Columbian btn)

This morning I was up at the break of dawn trying to see if I could find a nice Tom turkey to lure in this morning. So after an hour or so of no luck trying to find one I ended up listening for them at one of my favorite old home sites. THis site has been good but it has been pounded. So after no turkeys were interested I got out the dfx and started looking around not expecting to find anything. The first decent target was the 1 peice button in the picture, I AM EXTREMELY CURIOUS AS TO WHAT THIS ONE MAY BE!!!

About a half hour later I got a signal popped out an amazing Script I -my first one! I was so stoked! Then after getting over the initial shock I moved a few feet and BOOM Another Script I then a few more feet and Another Script I

3 Confederate Buttons in 1 hunt cant beleive it. :tongue3:

That is an amazing day there James! Three script I's and the Colombian button which I suspect was on a Confederate uniform. I found one of those Libertad buttons on the Port Rebublic battlefield. I also know of one dug in Hampton, VA, one dug in Culpeper, VA, and another one dug in Georgia. They seem to turn up on Civil War sites which makes me think they may be surplus buttons that the Confederates got their hands on. They may even be from surplus uniforms that the Confederates were using. I sent mine in to Mark Parker at Western & Eastern treasures a while back. He said it was an 1820s Columbian army button. Mine is one piece with a different backmark than yours.

Steve thanks again for all of this great info! It is very interesting how a few of those buttons have turned up over the years at CW sites. Thanks!

........ Add one more. I dug one of these Columbian buttons near Mobile , Alabama. ....Thought I was alone ; and also puzzled. Appears perhaps these were Confederate surplus !!! CUDOs !!!
