I found this deep in the ground in my backyard. It was crumpled into a ball and I had to pry it open. Doing so I broke it ...but it was broken anyway.

Any ideas what this could be from? House goes back to the 1880s.

Thanks!

Interesting find Bramble. Do you think it is a vintage Trojan condom tin?

Next time boil the piece in water before trying to bend it back in shape; the heat works wonders. Nice find, Breezie

The original "Trojan!" Cool.

And Breezie, I use olive oil sometimes as it gets hotter than the 212 we are limited to with water. Just a way to get it a bit hotter.

That is a very good guess! I will check that out tomorrow. Gosh.. that would mean that possibly a condom wearing Mason lived in my house.

I love this hobby!

Thanks for the tips on the how to unbend. I will definitely keep them in mind in the future. ;D

:laughing7: Breezie - It's amazing how a vital piece of history like the "3 Merry Widows" condom can be lost to history. It's up to us intrepid metal detectorists to make sure it is not forgotten!

Ok here is another shot after some heating and unbending -

The only Trojan condom tins I have found so far look like a form of this -

That is a good depiction Breezie. But this piece was attached to that sort of mangled piece in the second pic. I broke it off when I was unwrapping the ball it was smushed into.

Here is the other piece to it again- it appears sliced off around the bottom edge..

Can you place the 2 pcs. together and take a pic? Breezie

I really should have taken a pic before I started unbending it :( I cannot figure out how it goes back together and now it is in three pieces.

Thanks for all your efforts Breezie :notworthy:

I have looked at a LOT of Trojan logos and none of them are like this. I think it is more of a decorative piece than a company piece. A cap, a pull, and end, etc.

Thanks Daryl ;D

Hmm.. not sure if you all picked it up but that thing on the top of the helmet appears to be a little dragon. I can see wings and a curled tail and it has a tongue with a point like an arrowhead.
