Anyone recognize this button? I found it here in VA at a site that has produced civil war buttons but can't quite place this one.

It's 19.5 mm in diameter, if that helps.

This is not in any way a positive I.D., but this looks a lot like a Revolutionary War Continental Navy Button. Where did you find it?

Welcome to Tnet! A few closer, better pictures would help. There are quite a few members very knowledgeable that may be able to assist in identification. Also- a great reference I bought at the suggestion of some on this forum is - “Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons” by Alpheus Albert. (Albert’s Button Book).

Sorry to have to tell you, that specific version of "anchor button" is definitely a civilian-usage Nautical-motif "Fashion" button, from sometime in the first half of the 20th Century. It's been posted many times during past years here in the What-Is-It? forum. A major clue to its actual identity: it always has/had an iron/steel back, which is most often either rusted away or only partially present. Note the small diamonds and other symbols encircling the anchor... definitely not a Military button.

I try hard to be worthy of the praise.

I know I do not know everything there is to know. But what I do know (with certainty), I am glad to share with this forum when needed.
