Is there a particular reason he can't deposit it and Paypal it as a gift directly back to you? Yeah it will cost him a few bucks, but you would have your money back right away after he receives it (assuming everyone trusts everyone here).

There are no charges on gift through PayPal, that is probably quickest way and protect both parties...

this forum could benefit from implementing the I-trader feedback system to weed out sellers like this.

If I were the seller of the xp machine the original poster wants, I'd sell it to someone else for 50 bucks cheaper just to teach him a lesson.

Depends on whether he has his account attached to a bank account, but thinking about it further he more than likely does.

i would think that would be a great way to ease the sellers feelings of guilt , is to work out something to get the money back faster even if it cost him a few bucks...
and also i see it as a common mistake and good to see both parties understand and are working thru it,, good job guys .:icon_thumright:

I mean the paypal gifting idea...

Jon, I can and will deposit the money order and send the money back via PayPal if that is what you want. I do think I should point out that while the money appears in your PayPal account immediately you then have to request that PayPal transfer the money from your PayPal account to your bank account. It will take 3-4 days for it to actually show up at your bank. If I receive your envelope at the post office and immediately send it back via Express Mail (1-2 days) you will actually have your money sooner. It is really up to you. I can do either one.

To everyone else..

Folks, those who wish to criticize my handling of this matter are welcome to their opinion. Everyone is entitled to an opinion provided we accept that opinion is the lowest form of knowledge. I frankly don't care if you think I should have handled things differently. There was no "right" way to deal with what happened. Somebody was going to have sent me money for a detector I couldn't send them. I dealt with it in what seemed the best of two uncomfortable choices. My intent in posting my mistake was to openly apologize to Dakotagrappler AND to maybe keep somebody else from getting into the same or similar situation. That's as far as I go.

It seems we have a happy ending here:notworthy: My hats off to both parties, you sound like two honorable people!

Persons reputation when selling is important, and that goes for the buyer too. So all you new people looking to buy, you better have the paypal ready and give these sellers instant gratification or you will loose out. Since real money changed hands, I dont what else a seller can expect from a buyer, so remember that, you buy from Tnet and its ok to repost a item to make a lil more, I mean sell out from under you. Sorry, but if tnet lets this go on, its just as guilty. Im a retired driver, and if I tell you Im gonna do something, I do it. You may wish to contact the police and file a report till your money is returned Dakota. Police reports dont cost nothing and no harm is done if the money is returned. Since the buyer failed to follow through with the deal and all.

I think you handled it in about as upright a manner as possible as it took guts.

Except filing a false police report (he sent the money and is getting it back) is a crime. And not everyone is as upstanding as you are with your word.

They both miscommunicated, they both came to an agreement.........trying to fan the flames is unwarranted.
