I needed to get out for a bit today, so after the sprinkles stopped this morning, I checked the radar and told WC that I was going back to my large cent grove to play. He put his work aside and decided to join me. :)

I dug a little trash and then got a deep signal. I dug down 10 inches and still didn't have the target. I thought I might be chasing another LC, but no dice. :-\ At 11 inches, I found an old kid's toy gyroscope - at least that's what I think it is.

About 15 minutes later, I was scanning an area near the edge of the grove when I got a penny signal. Much to my surprise, a 1914 Barber dime showed its face at 7 inches. :D

So, while it wasn't an earth shattering day, I managed to grab a nice old toy and an old silver in a 2 1/2 hour hunt. Mark scored, too, and that made it that much better!

Thanks for checking out my finds and HH to all!!!

Cool gyroscope and sweet Barber!

I'm glad you called and said you were going out, I really needed to get away for awhile ;D

Very nice Barber dime! I love those in-situ shots, the silver just gleams from under the dirt. Cool toy too.

A Barber would totally make my day!

Oh well, confession time.

I used to LOVE playing with those at the 5 and Dime, or was it Ben Franklin in the toy aisle with the tin wind up cars that everyone made fun of because they had " Made in Japan" on them. Both of those types of toys had mechanical/physical attributes that caused you to wonder, then learn.

Man I so wish I'd simply grown up in the age of point and shoot videos only. Not!

Great find, it's a sentimental favorite!

Congrats! I'm glad you were able to get out. That dime sure looks sweet!

number ?

I have to get out more than I am.....

WTG......

Oh man , I gotta start digging more penny signals. That's a sweet looking Barber, Neil!

Thanks, gents!

HH out there this weekend! I'm probably pretty much through hunting for a while. My daughter and her family are coming in and we'll be watching the little ones while they go out of town. They're too small to take hunting...

Get some silver, but don't get it all! ;D

WOW - I don't know how I missed this one, great job bud!!!!

Nice finds Neil!
That Barber's in great shape. Man, I used toplay with one of those for hours when I was a little guy. There was a small groove on the bottom shaft, and after you got the gyro going you'd grab it by the top and put it on the string and let it walk down it. That was also in the days of the little ducks and frogs with suction cups that would walk up walls. Times have changed.

WOW! Thanks for the flood of memories. As soon as I saw the photo, without reading any text, I knew exactly what it was. I flashed back to some younger years a looooong time ago. I used to play with that thing for hours.

My first home made communications device was actually two cans, a couple of buttons, some string, and candle wax...

Like I said... memories

Neil...that is a great hunt. :icon_thumleft: I'm thrilled with just one keeper anymore in any of my parks.
