Detector(s) used
Minelab X-Terra 705 Gold
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
Found Several things at first thought it might be an old still, majority thinks its an old water heater and junk site. I found lots of buried glass and some metal objects some of which I have no clue as to what it is. Besides giving me any info on what some of these items are, any feedback on digging through a junk or dumping ground would be appreciated.

I have a minelab 705 and I am not sure the best setting to use or what to do to eliminate all of the iron. Today I just put the detector down and started digging!

The old padlock says RFD Rural Free Delivery I think it is a mailbox lock from the late 1800's.

The first three photos I took with my mini Ace shovel for size comparison, All three items were very heavy. I didn't drag them out of the woods!

All thoughts and tips welcome!

Well the last picture is what's left of an old hand crank mixer I would think, The piece with the M on it is an old hub cap, possibly Mercury, or it could be Maxwell, I'm not sure. In the 7th pic the tube with the flange on it next to the other thing with the four prongs I think has been ID'd here before as an old suspension bushing from a car.

My thought would be to use your detector on the dirt piles you pull out when you dig to look for coins and small relics you might miss otherwise. I'd think that with that much big iron in the ground you'd be hard pressed to find anything through it. I'd scan for a spot that's clear of signals and pile the dirt there and then detect it.

Looks like a good spot though, I'll bet you'll find some more cool stuff.

Photo #6; The artifact with the M, is a hubcap that belongs to a automobile manufactured by the Marmon Automobile Co. Your site ma be an old dump, but you may still find some goodies.

Thanks T Bone, both you and N Ken said the last photo looks like an old hand mixer ; that makes sense, I can't visualize the sliding barn door thing, so not sure on that one. I will go on google and search for it. That piece weighs about 6 to 8 pounds, it was fairly heavy. Thanks for helping me out. I appreciate it.

I'm with Nola this is a good site. Learn how to make a screen sifter and you will have a blast. Go deeper there has to be bottles!

After today and sorting through all the broken glass, I understand where a screen sifter would come in handy! I will MacGyverize something!
