Well I finally couldn't take it anymore - seeing Crusader, Mike and others displaying finds that made me green with envy ;D

I had ten days detecting in Europe and even though I didn't get any hammered silver I had a great time with a fantastic group of American detectorists and thought I'd better share some of the finds.

I didn't think much of this at the time but have since identified it as a piece of scale armour

KanonKreuz1.JPG
Austrian 1814 Army Cross - known as the Kanon Kreuz (or cannon cross) made from the bronze of captured French cannons after the defeat of Napoleon

Self Explanatory - a nice Austrian coin

I was on a tour doing part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. I'll drop in for a beer next time - promise ;D

Common error, to called 'medieval harness rings' - ring money, sorry.

The strapend is very interesting, I think early medieval, but haven't seen that type before.

I just learnt something from you, I thought those little things were strapends. I'll have to take them out the strapend bag now :D Very good find, they are small.

Did any of the party get hammered  Seriously they can take years, or you just need luck.

Remember if you visit here, I have a friendly farmer or two.

Great hunt  the Roman armour piece is my favorite

No need to be sorry - thats exactly what I thought it was but the local 'expert' said otherwise. Just as happy for it to be a medieval harness ring ;D

I hope to do an English tour next year so I'll give you a yell for sure.

I don't know what the final count was but I know at least 12 hammered were found by the group, none by me unfortunately.

There is a lot of confusion about Celtic ring money, especially when it comes to the bronze variaty :icon_study: medievl harness ring tend to be flat, yours looks to be round in nature.

there are a lot of so called Bronze Celtic ring money being sold on various web sites, some of these bronze rings were obviously used as harness rings but I personely don't believe that all of them were.

But I think that the jury is still out on wether or not that some were indeed Celtic ring money
