OMG! It was yellow opal and now you've ruined it. ROFL, I don't know what it is, but it's probably agate like Eu_Citizen said because the man knows his rocks.

I have a similar agate, I'll take a shot (pic) for you to compare AA.

TT I don't think so the luster is not right I'd say.(in regards with glass slag)

AA do the hardness test that could kill quite a few theories.

It looks as if it was once a piece of wood to me. Now I know what amber is and I know what petrified wood is and this has strange characteristics of both. At least by the photo through my eyes.

Keep going with the hardness test... is it really pliable like tar, or plastic?
If a little chipped off, did it smell when heated in a flame?

I think you've got a large trunk of tree resin... pattern is from where it set up against the tree.
If it's pliable, then it's NOT fossilized...aka amber Not yet, but it was on it's way...
