My son and just got back from a quick hunt. The lighting and snow chased us out fast!!! Can't wait to go back. I didn't know about these. It is off of one of the better known ore cars in the history of western mining, the Silver State Automatic Ore Car. This ore car automatically opened when dumped and locked when shut. They seem to be coveted by collectors, and now especially me. My Father would drag us up to the mining towns to explore when we were younger. I have always loved the mining history, that's probably why I live in Victor the city of mines.
My son found the Pluto bottle and we don't know what the strange item is but maybe lighting related. I would love to know what it is. Maybe it wrapped around something. Happy Memorial Day, I hope your pulling some ribs off the smoker, I am:) Happy Hunting!!

Darn .. That's a neat ore tag. Closest I have been to one of those is on the carts that decorate the sidewalks in Ouray ! That bottle is plenty cool, too!

Great find I love stuff like that sounds like it has alot of meaning to you and your Dad and Family Great piece of history....Happy Memorial day to you and yours as well Tommy

That Ore tag is a nice relic find. My brother would have an appreciation for that, as he is a Mining Engineer. In fact, he mined up in Nederland Colorado for about 20 years.

At one time Denver, Colorado Springs and Pueblo had several industrial plants building mining equipment. I worked for Brunner & Lay which bought out the Timken Bit Plant that was once on Fountain Ave. There was another company in CS called Card Mfg. there in the Springs building ore cars up into the 1980s I believe. Today the very old Denver Rock Drill Company building is still standing and what's still going from that is the Midwest Rock Drills I now work for that still produces the original Gardner-Denver rock drill made now in Wentzville, Missouri.... Long gone are those industries here in Colorado. I worked with a few ex Timken folks who all moved to the plant in Chicago for B&L in the 1990s. Those folks are all retired or no longer around now. Sometimes I feel like a lone survivor in the Rocky Mountain West mining industry, still selling the things for the smaller narrow vain operations. Oddly enough I just sold some handheld rock drills to a reopening mine in Ouray Colorado. Tomorrow I'm headed for a pow wow meeting is SLC to sit down with the factory boys from Show Me State. We're all gonna talk about new directions and what the plant can do in the coming new era of mining technology. I got me one good idea I want a persuade with my power point dog and pony show I've been working on.

Thanks for the post creskol! We have quite a few different kinds of ore carts all over our town. Here is my neighbors. I sold her the old toilet that came out of a Creek. I don't especially care for the decorations, but people put all kinds of things in them. Ouray is a beautiful place and that drive to Telluride is beautiful.IMG_20200525_081446184_HDR.jpgIMG_20200525_081450545_HDR.jpg

Thanks Trezurehunter, Nederland is a great place. I imagine they were mining for gold. That would be a cool job!!!
