OK so I started to melt my scrap copper into ingots and on my second batch I took a bunch of what I thought to be decorative copper crown molding crumpled it up and smelted it. It smoked weird and burned a funny not like the first batch and this is want came out, my CTX says it reads almost the same as my gold eagle.
Now I would not of guessed that some one would plate copper over gold but that is what I believe I am seeing, this is from a 1700s manor.
So has anyone ever heard of something like this
