So unfortunately pocket watches do not hold much value. The majority of the value will be the gold in the case. You say 18k gold, but is it solid gold or gold filled or gold plated?

14K if the photo is enlarged it's on the case lid.

This Waltham 14k gold pocket watch has a serial # of 129413. A website said this was made in 1864. What might it be worth?
Here is the asking price of some.

Don't scrap it for just the gold value.
There's a market for resale

Ah thanks didn't see that. So if that's the case than that full hunter case with the nice design work is going to be the majority of the value here.

You can go to ebay sold listings and see that watches with the same or similar 11 jewel movement with a gold filled case only go for around 150 to 400. But the ones with a nice solid gold fancy full hunter case sell for 1200 to 4500

Too add to that from the condition of the case that I can see from the photo, yours will be on the higher half of that spectrum.

Also is that serial number on the case the same as on the movement?

You have a 14K case.
With the serial #129413
It isn't the movement serial # for the correct dating.
Open the back, take a photo of the movement #.
From that serial # the correct date, and specs. can be determined.

They will be different most likely.
That's what I'm wondering, looks like the number he gave is for the case but I can't tell. And the movement is what I had looked up on walthams website

It seems to be the case number.
It's a common error when folks look up the Serial # on the online databases.

The face of the watch say Am. Watch Co., Waltham. the cover says 14k, 129413.
The back cover says14k, Waltham, 129413
And the cover to the works says 14k , 129413
The number on the works is 3584564, Amer. Watch co, Waltham

So it's a 13 jewel, royal quality, Model 1873, produced 1888. Nice watch. For sure worth the higher end of that scale.

The case data base doesn't seem to be working.
So a 1S movement is 30.48 mm

Looking at weight it falls between the size listed of 33mm.

So taking 1 oz. X .585% for 14K.

The case alone would provide this result.

Now add the movement, make, and condition to that base price.

Thanks for your answer! An auction house here in Maine told me the value was $800- 1,200. They did not look at it.

That is a lowball estimate.
Not even the scrap value.
I scrapped out a hunter case pocket watch in 2006. Gold was just over $600 an oz.
I still got $400+
Today gold is $2000 oz. more in value.
