Am I really THAT old? How much time do YOU spend detecting?

I'm 43. Two to three hours and I take a little break. Depends on conditions, site, etc. At about 7-8 hours I hit a wall and need a "big" break.

Those 200 coin days - I doubt that 200 + holes were dug for those. Those come with surface finds, multiple coins in a single hole and woodchips.

I am rooting for the NY guy who is trying for 200 this Saturday. He is starting at 5:15am!

Hi all.

I'm 53 and I can do 2 to 3 hours at a time especially if I'm huntin' with my buddies but the aches and pains are expected. Fifty to sixty coins a day is the average for now with some jewelry sprinkled in sparingly. Like most, I can go for a couple of hours, about the time I'm saying to myself "It's only a Lincoln at 6", not gonna dig this one". Then it's time for something cold and a break in the air conditioning. Then on to the next spot.
I too hope to retire someday and to be able to spend a lot more time huntin'.......

Keep safe...

Yes Ricardo is his name we talk back and forth once in a while. As you stated all my 100 and 200 coins days involve usually several coin spills and surface finds good point. I do not dig a ton of extra holes and cherry pick....probably way to much! But some people do seem to dig a ton of holes also.

I hope Ricardo makes it. It will be tough because not to knock the Ace 250..but he described some of the problems with discrimination to me and he will not be digging a lot of pennies. Usually my once a week 100 coin day always includes at least 50% pennies so if he does it that will be a great accomplishment to hit 200 coins. It is almost 8am so he is out there digging now. Sorry Ricardo but this air feels good.... ;D Hopefully he is doing well. No digging for me this weekend. Tough day yesterday to find 26 coins and lose a 1920 wheatie within 20 minutes of finding it.

I would enjoy spending 7-8 hours a day detecting. I've done it in the past but now I don't have the time. I see alot about 200 coin days and people wondering. Spend a day in tot lots and if you hit the right one you can end up with large coin counts. Hit a fair after it closes and see how good your finds can be. And Gregg, if you cherry pick, then your doing it wrong, cherry pick the quarters and not the pennies ;D . I can honestly say I pass on many shallow memorial cents when I hunt a newer area. I may miss a ring or two and I dig a few to keep myself honest but I also don't often dig 50 memorial cents a hunt either. I can only get out at most three hours and seldom do I want to stop when I am done. I'm 49 and my three year old daughter demands my time more and more and I stop because I want that time too. Next year she will be with me when I go and then we can enjoy this time together!

I am 42. I only get out maybe once a week to dirt fish. I usually go for about 3 hours, but if I am finding some good stuff, it gets the adrenaline going and I can stay out a while longer. I am pretty beat when I get home and been known to hit the pillow for as many hours as I been out ;D

The funny thing is, when I go to the big hunts, I can detect for 12 hours a day and get up the next morning and do it all over again. There are a lot of stump sitting breaks in there, but the body still lets me do it ;)
