Always wanted one of these ,,,never thought I'd find one!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't had much time to hunt lately,,,work has me extremely busy,,,,that's OK though!!!
Got out for a bit on Saturday,,,went to my wife's first cousin's place in the country,,,,house was built in 1950,,,but I figured there was an old house there before,,,,,Started in the front yard,,,,got a few wheats then I hit a strong penny signal at 4",,popped out this sweet Commonwealth of Australia large Penny,, 1920,,,,,,
Now for the really sweet find!!! Went to the back yard by the garden and got a sweet Qtr. signal at 5" and dug a plug,,,probed the hole and it's still in there,,,scooped out a big handful of dirt and I see a silver edge in the dirt,,,,,I'm thinking alright!! Silver Qtr.,,,picked it up and saw this dudes face and at first I thought it was a Capped Bust,,,,but knew right away,, that's not right,,turned it over and I knew right away what it was,,,,,1817 2 Reale!!!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;DNow I'm really PUMPED!!!!!!!!!
How it came to rest in a yard in Iowa I have no clue,,,but I'm glad it did!!!! Goes to show,,,you just never know!!! Thanks for looking!!!! Dan

WOW, a big congrats on finding the 2 Reale.
I didn't think that I would ever find one of those either but I found one last year.

Congrats, Spanish silver was legal tender in the U.S. until 1857. Australian large cents were not :laughing7: .

Re: Always wanted one of these ,,,never thought I'd find one!!!!!!!!!!!!

You just never know what you'll find in Iowa or any state. These two coins plus other colonial where find here in IA. The 8R was found by my friend Jose in CB/Omaha while working on the new walk bridge. I assume it came from a ship wreck along the Missouri river. The 2R was found here in IA a few yrs back. Plus there's lots of old towns that sprang up during the late 1850's so yes you'll never know whats out there till you try. HH and WTG

Looks like Mexico Mint :icon_thumright:

Still looking for my first :(

Re: Always wanted one of these ,,,never thought I'd find one!!!!!!!!!!!!

I want one too, :o You imagine it has a hole through it so someone could wear as a necklace.... :icon_scratch: Why then do all these coins I see found with metal detectors. All of them have the hole so it would be upside down if put on a necklace. :dontknow: So then maybe they are thrown away because they put the hole on the wrong side... :sign13:

Nice finds !! :o :icon_thumleft:

Keep @ it and HH!! :D
