I have seen the websites talking about the myths associated with using pop tops for certain things and causes but that is not what I am talking about.
The aluminum drink can is deep drawn from a 3004 alloy. The lid is made of a slightly different alloy (5042 alloy) than the aluminum for the base and sides of the can.
Different alloys are worth different amounts of money. If the pop top - alloy 5042 - is separated from the can - 3004 - alloy, you should get the scrap price for that particular alloy not the price for mixed alloy. I can't find out what the buyers offer for the different alloys since I am not in the States at present. But there may be a significant difference in the price of the 2 alloys. I don't know, I just know they are two different alloys of aluminum.
