Aluminum pop tops should be out lawed

I have seen the websites talking about the myths associated with using pop tops for certain things and causes but that is not what I am talking about.

The aluminum drink can is deep drawn from a 3004 alloy. The lid is made of a slightly different alloy (5042 alloy) than the aluminum for the base and sides of the can.

Different alloys are worth different amounts of money. If the pop top - alloy 5042 - is separated from the can - 3004 - alloy, you should get the scrap price for that particular alloy not the price for mixed alloy. I can't find out what the buyers offer for the different alloys since I am not in the States at present. But there may be a significant difference in the price of the 2 alloys. I don't know, I just know they are two different alloys of aluminum.

I've found a new nemesis: the inner seal in some yuppie-water, fruit or sport drinks have a stiff foam "anti-tamper" insert with a foil backing that is just about the size of a quarter. I'm finding dozens of these in some spots this year.

BLAST!
Don't you just love those! Plenty of those on the beach. My favorite is the lid to the "jugs" or "hugs" whatever they're called. I wondered what they were for the longest time until my wife brought home a box of them. :D

Come to thinks of it, those dirty old rusty cans of beans the old timers (miners)use to consume!!!! Hate them, hate them, Hate them.

There.... I feel better.

I would support outlawing them, but I'm afraid it's way too LATE! Not only that, I have an idea that once they're in the ground, they quietly multiply.

maybe we could just build a detector that finds junk, then all we would find is the good stuff! ::) ;D

Personally I would rather find the pop top aluminum tabs than the cans they came from. My trash pouch fills up fast when I start finding aluminum cans. On my first trip to the beach in June of his year I found a six pack of beer, not all the same, but a total of 6 beers buried in the sand. I walked them right to the trash cans. I remember a few trick I have done when I was younger making drinking any of these out of the question.

I feel your pain. I often wonder how in the world someone finds it easier to dig a large enough hole to cover a can rather than just toss it in the trash. I am getting better at ignoring what seems to be a can single but any target strong enough to put out like a can and left undug gives me that "did I just miss out on something good" feeling.

I kind of like the idea of building a "Trash Detector." We find so much trash, ah hand-disinterred crape, with these fancy treasure machines, a machine designed to find trash might just find treasure. Think about it. ;)

Yes but then we would all be on here complaining that all we find is coins. ::)

Waiting for x-ray glasses that can detect what's in the ground.
