They were. The cans of today have the tabs attached, hoping they get trashed with the can. ;D

have you seen those tiny plastic bottles at wal-mart, in a decade the pull tab will be extinct! However, this will be a nightmare for all you plastic detectors :o

I remember back in the 80's they had a thing that was one pull tab equals one minute on a resparator for some child, the shriners did it I think, I collected tons of those thing and gave them....wonder if they still do this?

Don't forget, back in th 70's we made belts out of them. You should have enough for a few now, sell them on e-bay as a collector item. :D Trash to Treasure! I would buy one, hard to find.

I have to point out that the pull tabs that are attached to the cans get removed and thrown away by some people. I suppose quite a few of those tabs do not get taken off the can, but I manage to find quite a few of the ones that do get removed. :'(

A phrase come to mind when I am out detecting and that phrase is " People Are PIGS!"

Personally I would rather find the pop top aluminum tabs than the cans they came from. My trash pouch fills up fast when I start finding aluminum cans. On my first trip to the beach in June of his year I found a six pack of beer, not all the same, but a total of 6 beers buried in the sand. I walked them right to the trash cans. I remember a few trick I have done when I was younger making drinking any of these out of the question.

soda tabs...

they're attached right? why rip them off? here's an interesting explanation i found out recently..

aside from people that take them off becuase it bothers them (not too many folks), there's a game gradeschool kids play with them that results in the tab getting yanked off.

kid wiggles tab back and forth whatever number of times the first letter in their sweethearts name equals to. if the tab breaks off when they hit that letter, they're meant to be in love forever (unlikely). needless to say, kids with names like andy or zack dont get much love in this game!

OH MY GOD...that just brought back a flood of memories of all the innocent flowers I plucked to death doing the..."he loves me, he loves me not" thing.

;D

We used apple stems instead. Otherwise Mom's flower garden would have been a bit bare. LOL

I've found a new nemesis: the inner seal in some yuppie-water, fruit or sport drinks have a stiff foam "anti-tamper" insert with a foil backing that is just about the size of a quarter. I'm finding dozens of these in some spots this year.

BLAST!

I think they do...one of the guys at my club collects them from everyone each month then I think he turns them in to his local elderly home. I give him all the ones from what I drink plus the ones I find....it adds up pretty quickly.

I've said this on some other posts but can't find any current information on it and I can't talk to a aluminum recycling buyer since I'm still in Amsterdam but I know that the price of aluminum depends on the alloy. I think the tabs are a different alloy from the cans and when removed and turned in to be sold, the buyer should pay much more for them since it is a different alloy. If somebody still in the US could find out for sure, that would be good. I'm just remembering what was said years ago when there were jars of the things in schools, etc.
