This was laying in the back yard of a 94 year old lady's and she has no idea what it is or how it got there. Found a month ago in the grass.
Maybe someone tossed it there or it fell from the sky.

The keys are for size and the center has a plastic clear lens .

U obviously can tell that the part u are seeing in the middle that looks like a tube is the core of a filter.

The housing where it looks “plastic” is threaded into the housing, it’s a removable, replaceable filter element, in case of fuel turning in to milk, and contaminating the entire fuel system. You, and I may be seeing two totally different things, but based on my experience as an ASE certified diesel mechanic, I’ve replaced my fair share of those on old 12V Cummins, old gas engines, dating from the 20’s till the advent of the new style separator

Yes the plastic is threaded and is shaped like a nut to put a wrench on it to take it off.

Sometimes explaining something is easier than pics. If you explain the process of how an item works people tend to believe a lot more of what you’re ID’ing.
