Nah it's Germany, you can see the hook of the G just barely, it's not a very crisp casting. My first thought was a cut up key, but it's big for that. It's too bad the writing on the back is cut off, that might have helped.

A guess would be part of a wall mounted bottle opener. These things are usually made of that kind of metal. What you are calling the back may actually be the
front, (and possibly upside down?) judging from the bevel of the hole where it would be screwed to a wall. If that's the case, what word (German or otherwise)
ends in 'sus' Totally a guess, but the best I can come up with.

Yes, the countersink seems to be backwards ...

By the feel (very lightweight) I would rule out bottle opener. I think It would not hold up.
