I was cleaning off my dresser this evening and and found a piece of slag I probably found a few months ago.... but for some reason...probably the weight... made me keep it. I picked it up tonight and headed for the trash.... but then thought better of it.

Roland58 kindly gave me some Neodymium magnets a few weeks back so I checked it. Negative. Then I remembered I had recently purchased an acid test kit while back....

I grabbed a file and cleaned a surface... dropped a drop on it.... an waited a few minutes.... sure enough..according to color its 90% silver like coins.

While I found this months ago... I only found out an hour ago that I almost threw nearly $40 in silver away.

Very nice save! :notworthy:
If only that piece was a bit longer at the bottom, I'd say it looked like the great state of Texas!

Thanks for reminding me I have a few pounds of the stuff in several pieces... and they weight 80 to 200 grams but I am pretty sure the 200g one is lead the other are much harder.

Wow, that is pretty awesome... Congrats. Might I ask, where you found that? If you remember.. i dont mean what park either, I mean like as a metal detector, where could someone go about finding a piece of raw silver like that? i know if I want to find gold, I go to the rocky mts. and do the streams and rivers, but I have only heard of one other person finding raw silver like that.....

Its not raw silver... most likely its melted silver from a house fire... that is where I find most of mine.

You must be kidding me! About a moth ago I searched an old location that had burned down in the 1920s and kept digging up alot of slag. However, some pieces were differnt & heavier, it made me wonder if it wwas melted silver. I just recently threw it all away. What acid test did you use and where can I purchase?

i have posted onthis site with the 2 chunks of slag i found, one is 95 % silver with 1% trace 4% copper, other one 99.8 % pure silver

Nice recovery!
test kit makes things a lot easier to ID,
Lakedweller, You can get one on Epay for under $15

RockDoc.

Chukers got it... most likely a house fire. I found this on my own property. I have found several pieces of the stuff.

... I got my test kit on ebay as well...they have them on Amazon too.

Man, that makes me want to check a whole bunch of similar looking items I mD'ed for near where I camp at. Its not aluminum cans, I was thinking it might be zinc as there is alot of zinc mines in that area. I have a good dozen or so of them. Find them all over the place there. Yes, there are some silver mines in the area. Would be wild if it was silver.

Very interesting. I know I've become much more cautious about just throwing away the mystery objects. I almost threw away a 2000 year old Indian artifact recently! When in doubt, check it out!!

Thanks for posting this.

Great job! Thanks for the post. I'll have to get me one of the test kits myself. HH :icon_thumright:

Sweet recovery!

All the best,

Lanny
