Nice job. I was wondering if anyone had hit that place since it closed. What is the large piece at the very top?
Congrats on the big assortment. No "get out of jail free" tokens from Dorthea? ;D ;)

Yes KirkTN My wrist and elbow are sore.

MM:
The piece at the top may be part of an old curtain rod?

Bob S. recently found a silver dime there.

The police encourage us to hunt anywhere, being careful of homeless persons in the old structures.

Today they offered to throw out a few pennies ::)

I was with Bill (B|lker) at Dorthea Dix. It's still open. I spoke with a State Capital Police officer today, while we were there. He said the place has been hit by (in his words) millions of people metal detecting. He didn't think we would find anything.

Bob,
Did he say "metal" or "MENTAL" ? ;)
I thought they had shut DD down by now.
Sounds like you guys did o.k. if it has been hit that much.

I just read, somewhere, (probably the N&O) that part of it might stay open til 2011. All that acreage has got to be worth a large fortune. Hope they don't put up any more houses, apartments, condos or offices.

I would love to go detect around where I grew up in Raleigh. I lived on Durant Rd. near the Honeycutt Rd. intersection. Back during the Civil War, my family owned most of the property back then, and as the story goes ----> the "yanks" came through and rummaged the area pretty good.

There used to be an old home place just behind our house in the woods. We would dump our trash barrells (we burned our trash then) into an old well.

Welcome Falcon.... I probably live between 1 and 4 miles from where you used to live on Durant Rd. Maybe we can get together and do some detecting, some time, if you're still in the area.
