All you old detector users

You should be able to get 8" on a Quarter with headphones.
Maby a couple more, Once you get used to it.

Oh, I've used it a lot before I got a new detector and found many coins. I just wondered what the experts could do? I was thinking of waterproofing and chest mounting it to use as a freshwater wader. Rob

My son has one of these and won't use any of the newer detectors. I ask him and he said he had dug up a few dimes at seven inches. However, a lot depends what the ground is like where you are and such factors as moisture, electrical interference, targets content and relationship to the coil.

To use this detector in the water will be work as the coil floats an you will have to hold it under. Good Luck with the project.

Sandman, except for the last 4" the support rod is metal. Why doesn't the coil read the rod? My MXT uses a fiber lower rod. Could weight be added in the rod or would the coil pick up the added mass? Rob

The Coil dosn't read the Rod Because it is a very small mass & there is no seperate Movement
between Both.
I Believe, A weight, Being a Much Larger Mass would cause Distortion
because of that.

OK guys, for a weight to help hold the coil down, a sock filled with sand works wonders. If you have a fiber or plastic lower rod, it sometimes helps to change the metal coil bolt with a nylon one. The coils field on top is distorted because of any metal and it is adjusted for it.

Socks are cheap. Back on shore you shake out the sand and wear it home.

Make some re-useable weights with thin walled PVC pipe filled with sand and capped. Attach them to the shaft, just above the mounting bolt, with zip ties.
