I figure this goes with the air test question I've already posted.

Your comments here could really help some new comers and some of old timers as well.

Please comment on ground balancing (GB).

To be more specific, consider the following (not limited to these):

In regard to adjustable ground balance...

1) how does it improve depth in mineralized soil? Does it mean the detector is able to totally compensate for the mineralization and therefore the depth cababilities are the same as in low mineralized soil?

2) how much of an advantage is adjustable GB over a factory set GB? Please share your own test results, etc. Are there times when it could be an advantage to have a factory set GB or is the factory set always a weakness?

3) of all the machines you've ever owned, which one handled ground mineralization the best?

It all depends on where a person detects. Up here in B.C. we've got freshwater beaches with layers of black sand on them. Taking a preset detector and trying to hunt in these areas is kind of pointless. It just tears up the detector, giving a solid overload signal. I know this 'cause I tried with a couple of preset machines I had (Golden uMax & original Golden Sabre). I was able to hunt thes areas with my MXT. ..Willy.

THATS WHAT I WAS SAYING IN SO MANY WORDS OR WAS IMPLYING.
THE WHITES MACHINES I HAVE, HAVE THE AUTO FEATURE WITH THE ABILITY TO LOCK. 6000 DI RO & 6000DI PRO W/ HOT ROCK DISC.
BOTH MACHINES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN SECURE. I PERSONALLY HAVE NEVER MOVED ACROSS GROUND WHICH HAS CHANGED BEYOND THE ABILITY OF THE AUTO FEATURE TO ADJUST TO. WHICH I CAN REMEMBER ANYWAY.
I AM CONSTANTLY ADJUSTING THE CONTROLS SO AS TO ACHIEVE GREATEST DEPTH. ESPECIALLY SENSITIVITY.
THATS WHERE EXPERIMENTING IN YOUR GARDEN HELPS ALOT AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR AND IN DIFFERENT CONDITIONS.
JUST MY THOUGHTS!

free, your mxt has automatic ground balance........according to the whites catalog.

I'll put this one out for everyone.

I've been online reading the reviews on Tesoro. I just left the MetalDetectorReviews site and I'm sure most here are familiar with it.

One thing I keep hearing (reading) about the factory set GB Tesoros is they do exceptionally well in highly mineralized soils. In fact, some claim the Tesoros are better than most of the other top brands.

Now, I'm not saying one way or another because I haven't had my set GB DeLeon out enough to know for sure. I'm not going to brag it prematurely in this area because I'm no BRAND puppy if you get me. If I find out Tesoro sucks I'll tell the world.

However, all these highly optimistic reports are just the opposite of what I ought to be hearing due to the Cibola and DeLeon being factory set GB machines.

Are all these reviews just "running off" or are they stating fact? Do they believe in their machines because they want to believe or do they believe in them because of objective evidence?

I sure can't wait for that ground to thaw! I even poured rock salt on our unpaved parking lot in hopes I could dig several solid targets I found recently. It didn't work? :'(

There's bad ground & there's extreme ground. Extreme ground is where a preset detector crashes & burns. There's quite a bit of latitude to be had when doing the initial adjustments of a preset detector. Some might set it up for hotter ground, some less. I also read an article on another forum regarding some of the circuit basics of the Tesoro. Evidently, they've incorporated something in their circuits that helps a bit with iron/mineralization. I think it was Reg that commented on it. Maybe I'll get my lazy a$$ in gear & look it up. ...Willy.

Thanks hollow and willy, had me worried for a second. Thought maybe i should be finding more stuff.
