Ain't she purty???

I went back to a large playground area that I last hit about 2 weeks ago. Just goes to show that you never know what might happen between visits....
Somewhere in that two week period a person sat on a bench to watch the kids and lost his/her 1944 mercury dime! She was just sitting there about an inch down in the woodchips waiting for me this morning - all shiny and bright. I also brought home a quarter-sized token from Gator's Dockside, three quarters, 5 other dimes, one nickle, 19 pennies, a barrette, a plastic and thread bracelet and a plastic bishop chess piece. Not bad for an hour of hunting... I hung in there until the heat drove me out; the sweet dime was the second find of the morning. (She's my second piece of found silver - my first -and my very first find - was another mercury dime... but that was long, long, long ago... way back in January!

Re: Ain't she purty???

A thought struck me...wasnt Mercury a guy , like the FTD florist? So I checked....Its not Mercury at all...its just little miss Liberty in a cool hat! They say the wings represent "Liberty of thought"

Just expressing my "Liberty of thought".....H.H......JO

Re: Ain't she purty???

You're right, it is Liberty, but such a manly looking lady she is! I think Mercury actually had the wings on his heels because he was noted for his speed. "She " was so homely I think no one had the heart to call her for what she really was so the term Mercury has just stuck over the years. JIM

Very nice!! I think the walking liberty and mercury are two of our best looking coins.
Even if the mercury does resemble Buster Crabtree. WTG!! HH
