Plumbob was the first thing I thought of from the shape of it, but its awful light. I'll post up a couple of more pics to look at the lines or lettering and the overall size

I still don't know what it is but its sure cool!! It still looks like a plumbob but it just didn't weigh enough. I know... its a pendulium for a travel clock from 1812 that Radio Shack made for the battle of New Orleans for traveling troops! Thats my story and I'm sticking with it. Neat find Ricky!!!!

Here's a few more pics. Its hard to say if there is lettering or if was lines that have corroded to look like letters. But ya'll tell me.

Montana Jim,

Its not a loop, its a round tab on top of it. I've included a pic of the top also

Did you tell us what it's made of? Maybe I missed that...

I think you simply have one awesome trade item... decorative trinket... you get the idea.

They were symbolic and could be any size even made into jewelry. I searched Masonic symbols and couldnt find anything like it.

It registered as Copper before I dug it up, but I think its more like Bronze by the look of the pits on it. I brush a section of the side and it is definitely a copper base.
