I wasn't going to even go out today but I happened across the weather report and from what it said, I just COULDN'T miss this first real Spring like day!

After the no coin day last time out at the mansion, I needed a coin fix. :)
So, I chose my recently rediscovered/researched ball field. I figured I could at least find some clad there. BOY! Did I get surprised!

The weather, the variety of finds, the success of the research about this realigned ball field that I figured out, all served to make this one of the most enjoyable days ever.

Enough talk, here's what you came to see:

There were many surprises today. This was one, it's brass and some sort of buckle. But, it was a
DEEP 14 inches!!! AND, it rang up like a quarter! ( 84-86)

For some reason this nail surprised me. It's non-magnetic! Brass/Bronze.
I don't think I knew they made brass nails, let alone square ones! LOL

Whole wheat toast section. :dontknow:

About those surprises? Well, this was a solid 8 inches down and it rang out
loud and clear as 90-93!! I was SOOOO expecting silver! (didn't miss by much but I'm still happy!) :)

IMGA3170.JPGIMGA3171.JPG
For some reason this only rang up at 42-45. I was very surprised to see silver! :)

IMGA3172.JPGIMGA3173.JPG
Ahhhhh, here was what I was looking for! A full 8 inches down and in lovely shape!
I thought for sure that here was the star of the hit parade for today!

But, no. I was in for one more surprise.

IMGA3175.JPG

I saw this first and figured, cool! I found an old boy scout or WWII pin of some sort!!
TOTALLY unexpected, given the spot I was hunting!

Then, I turned it over.

I really don't know my buttons at all. But, I KNOW this is just plain special! At least, it is to me. :)
I would love to hear the story about this button and how it came to be where I found him.

Um, Marine Quartermaster? :dontknow:

Like I said, all in all, a simply wonderful day!!! Hope I was able to share a bit of the pleasure
I found in this, the first day of Spring. (at least, it was for me).

Thanks for peeking!

HH!

My ride is here! See ya! :)

Well done on research and recoveries! A fine day indeed.

Thanks!

I used to be pretty good at research. I have a knack for seeing patterns that many don't. It's very nice to find things like this but even more so when it's a direct result of one's research. :)

Sweet Finds, congrats! Your collar insignia is in fact US Army Quartermaster, branch insignia, post WW2 as the eagle's head is separate from the wing. Quartermaster...that would be a cool moniker on Tnet! Happy Hunting, Sub

Great job and nice finds Whadifind, way to make them long cold winter days pay off, when we finaly get out HH

Very nice:thumbsup: Great pictures:thumbsup:

great variety of finds very cool congrats:icon_thumright:

Terrific finds and entertaining post, as usual. Impressed that you found that buckle at 14 inches. Makes me think that I should get an AT Pro when I finally upgrade from my Ace 250. I don't find things that deep unless I swing my coil over a 72 Chrysler Newport. Whattya think? You recommend?

Thanks for the kind words!

About upgrading; I think I'm becoming firmly convinced that it's an error to upgrade simply to get more depth. I think it might be more important to determine why your current machine isn't performing as expected.

It might well turn out to be that it is simply that the current one was produced, in an effort to keep it low cost, in such a manner that lessens the depth capabilities. But, more than likely, it's a combination of things that is causing the issue. Such as, low batteries, ground mineralization, coil types/sizes, use of headphones/or not, combinations of signals near each other, etc., etc. You see, there is a LOT going on when we take that swing.

I did get a buckle at 14 inches but, the real question is why? I know the AT-Pro is a super all around detector but did it shoot deeper? I don't know since I didn't have another detector with me to check.

Before I would "upgrade" to ANYTHING, I would try to figure out what the problems are first. Maybe you need one that handles a certain type of mineralization or separates signals better or maybe, (and don't take this wrong), you just need some more quality time with the detector.

I don't have a good answer but I hope something up there helps someone in some way.

Actually, given the condition of it, I was pretty sure it was it was post WWII. But, that's fine by me. It's still a nice add to my display.
(I ran into the same problem searching for Quartermaster on here too. ;) )

Thanks!
