:D I dunno. Maybe a cane end? Two inches long, One and a half inches at it's widest point. Has a few decorative designs around. Any guesses?
Thanks again!
Nana :)

Creskol is correct, as usual. Definitely a sword's pommel-cap. As to it being "civil war era" or not... to get you a specific time-period and ID, we need additional close-up photos showing the design on its sides, as clearly as possible. At present, that design seems to be parially obscured by dirt.

OK..so I'm still stunned over your reply Creskol. So stunned that I almost forgot my Southern manners and tell you 'Thank you!' I still can't get past that I thought it was the top to a cane. :tongue3: :D
I have a pic from my one and only CW book. It's Warman's 2nd Edition and is on page 368. This looks ever so close. Am I hoping for too much? :D
See that second line going across the top of the vine looking etching? Not a great pic. I need to try again I suppose.

Thanks again!!!
Nana :)

Saw your reply CBC as I was posting. I will take better pics, but I think I have most all the dirt off. I put a dab of vaseline on it yesterday to try and make out the design. So what you are seeing is the engraving without the benefit of vaseline in the grooves. I will take better pics for ya tho. Thanks so much, ya'll!

That is a great find Nana. Just looking at the pictures of the swords, there might be more brass signals waiting for you at that site. ::) Go find the rest of it.

I do now! :D
Thanks ya'll. We've got to get back out there. If you've ever hunted with me, then you know I don't stay in one spot for very long. When I found this and the button, I had no idea what it was I had found, so I just kept going. :tongue3:
Have a great weekend!
Nana....the girl from Bama. ;D (How ya doin Frank?)
