North Carolina State Automobile Association license plate topper.

Not sure but I would guess mid to late 1950's.

I know in college sports divisions you have single A, double AA, etc. Maybe has something to do with that.

I have looked at many emblems from NC State University. I don't think this is representing the university.

I believe it is to be read as "North Carolina" then "State AA".

DCMatt is most likely on the right track.

Yep I think you guys are right about it being a license plate topper

This link (search frame) shows the same diamond shaped design with N & C interlocked.

How did you find that?! I searched and searched for an NC State AA topper. Closest I got was the Minnesota State AA one I posted.

Anyway, that removes all doubt.

I was still looking for hiking trail signs since no matching AA signs had been posted. I typed in your ID and searched images (funny thing is I can't find the image on the link itself).
