When I was a kid, late 40's, the Union Oil gas station where we gassed our car had some sort of a gimmick going
on, where they passed out coins/tokens with presidents pictures on them. That was a long time ago, and I don't
remember much about it. But it might be a start. That was on the south/central coast of California, don't know if
the same type of thing took place in NY. ???

I dug a Truman one a little while back. Gas station promo? Called the president game maybe.

Bubba,
Your welcome. Also, in the late 60s Shell stations had similar (presidential) tokens given out with each fill up. Some were even instant winners ($2 or $5)--when a gallon cost in the upper 30 cent range.

Yep! I worked at at a shell station after school. In all I think there were 3 sets of the tokens put ot. The set before the Shell tokens were made of brass. The one Bubba found is one of the old ones. Tony
