Woodland Detectors

I managed to sneak away yesterday for a little while. It had been raining here in the Carolina's for about a week. I got in my truck and began my 20 minute drive east. The fall colors of the trees are magnificent this time of year here in the Smokey Mountains. I arrived at my spot and fired up the trusty Etrac as I began my "gridding" ritual. I swept slow and even. Digging many iron targets from the ground placing them in my rubbish bag. The ground was soaked and already, I had accumulated 5 lbs of clay on each shoe. Wet red clay is no fun! I spent the day just relaxing, watching and listening to the wildlife. Wild turkeys gobbling in the morning and even a few deer grazing in the same field I was detecting. It's funny, the deer never mind me detecting but, when hunting season comes around...they know. Yesterday I had found 3 large(Navy??)13 stars..Civil war Buttons. D Evans. (Attelboro falls)There was no missing these! Below are a few pics of my day. A Revolutionary war "skirmish was fought very close by with a scar of a fallen "militia" Officer.Mind you, this stone is in the "bush" all by itself 3 miles in. Someone takes good care of Mr. Francis's resting spot. Obviously, the stone isn't the original. The original is sill visible in the last photo. The tree is an enormous Poplar Near the fallen officer.
