Hey y'all,

Today after school, my friend and I were playing catch on the corner and the ball rolled under a vacant house. I crawled under and got the ball but on the way out, I spotted a coin under the house and found this wheat? I called him under and he immediately found a medical flask from c. 1890. Then I found tens of plate shards and then I found what looks to be half a pearl button? Then I found this nice spoon with a lion, anchor, and G n it and says silver. Info needed. We loaded as many relics into the pockets and will go back tomorrow for the plate shards. I need help with the spoon.
Thank you

In my book, there is absolutely nothing finer, than after school treasures! For too many reasons to go into here.

Way to go!

I'd sure like to see that spoon cleaned up - with a close up on the hallmarks - The anchor makes me think Birmingham, England , but the word silver is not typical
of English hallmarks , So maybe Gorham - because of the G. ( I think they also may have used an anchor and a lion even though they are an American Co.)

Search that area well.Could be many a hidden treasure there.Congrats on your finds.

I'm sorry, it says "sterling" not "silver", just a typo. How old is it?

Did you get under there with your metal detector or just by eye? Cool finds, hope you find some more silver!

Just by eye, I'm going with my pro pointer on Friday

Nice. After school exploring (old abandoned houses) is what got me interested in treasure hunting. The spoon was made by Gorham. The pattern is called Lancaster, it was first sold in 1897. Check the back of the spoon to see if there is a date code. Here are the marks and an example-
Gorham Silver Marks & Dates - Encyclopedia of Silver Marks, Hallmarks & Makers' Marks
Gorham Corporation: sterling silver marks, hallmarks, dates and history

The date mark would be on the back of the bowl itself-

Nice finds! You say, "after school" so you must be young...wish I had started treasure hunting when I was a kid.

Congrats on the really cool finds.

Anita

Show the marks on the spoon.

Sure there is a pick axe on the bowl part which through "diggumup"s link showed that it dates from 1918, then on the handle have a lion, anchor and and old-English "G", respectively. Thank you
