Hey guys, Ive been lurking in the shadows for a while and decided to join yesterday. During my last tour to Afghanistan I got this "THING" from a local guy at a bazzar. It is 17 inches long and has alternating patterns up the handle that look like this, lXXXl lXX XXl l l X X X ll . My translator said it looks like a rice sturrer. At first I thought it could be a mirroe but it is not very big. The round part is 3.5 inches across.

So what do you guys think? Its probably not a very common thing to get items from Afghanistan on here.

Also, would electrolosis jack it up or would it make it better?

Thanks

Chris

PS-I left my camera at my buddies so I took the pics with my iPhone, if they are hard to see I can post new ones.

Welcome KM
It sounds like a basic sort of decorated implement but get some better pics and let's see.
And a good hint is - don't use a white background for the pic - try dark blue and take the pic in natural light where possible.
Cheers, Mike

I would go with rice stirrer. If it was American, I would say odd spatula.

The X and I marks are common around the world, signifying, of course....

.... that it was decorated by a smith with his chisels. Or files, in bronze.

I concur with LUCAS.
I think it's a locally made cooking
utensil and the I and X's are handle
decoration using a chisel and done
by the smith.
With everything that I've seen and read
about Afghanistan, this is most likely the
new and improved version.....you should
have seen the old one.

P.S. Thanks for your service in Afghanistan.

Thanks! There is so much good stuff over there it is insane. The only bad thing is that you never know if your metal detector is hitting on a coin or a landmine.

Yes was a spatula type thingy crafted by indigenous personal.
A lot of the Afghani craftsman are extremely talented,I bought many handmade Knives when i was there c1990s.
Welcome back to the world, and HH.

Thanks Sasnz. I posted some mistamped dimes on the coin page. I need to go resize because they are the size of hubcaps.
Nice fish on your avatar.
