I wanted to ask you all for advice. I just talked to a lady from the Daughter's of the American Revolution. I got alot of information from her on an old stockade that dates back to the 1750's in my home town. She gave me info on the exact placement of the old fort. She also stated that there was a artifact dig done in that area about 40 years ago but there should be a ton of stuff still there because the dig was in a small area of the old stockade. There is now a sewage treatment plant on the site but she says when they built it they didn't move any dirt around so alot of the area is still virgin. I am looking for you guys to give me some advice on detecting the site. I was given the go ahead already and just need a plan of attack.

I don't know about the Ace-250,not familiar with it but i've read the reviews.Don't think it's a real deep sensing unit.Try to do some research as to the original layout of the fort,as compared to the layout of the sewage plant today.Try to do a map overlay with it.As Michigan Badger said, the good stuffs probably deep,so you might want to go over the area/s real slow w/ no disc. full sensitivity, all metal mode.If you find a few things that aren't that deep, there may be a lot more that are deeper.Use the biggest coil you can get for your machine.Good luck and keep us posted as to your progress. H.H.

One little bit of advise-don't dig through the side of any hills in the area. ;D
Seriously, there should be some records from the origional dig on file either at your local library, historical society, or at the least the newspaper archives should have something about who did the dig and where they were from. From there, should be some kind of record available and possibly a list of what was found and where. In the meantime, since you have permission, I'd start swinging and hope for the best. Good luck and HH 8)

as far as the ace goes, you should be good to about 8 inches but no more.good luck

There aren't any map layouts of this old stockade. What I do know about it is it was a ammo site. After the Revolution it was used in the french and indian war. Also there were cabins around the stockade I know an approx location of two graveyards on the site. alot about the site has been lost to time. It took me a better part of 2 months just to find out the info that I have at this point. No books about this fort exists. I wish I could get more info and maps of it but they simply don't exist.

Yeah, The lady from Dar told me to contact Pittsburgh's historical society. Apparently they did the dig.
