Adventures with the "V"
I got my V in from a online friend and will post my "lessons" as I get familar with this machine. I have hunted for several years with an XLT, as such I have a fondation to build on as far as VDIs and feel of the machine.
I finally got with my new Vision (not upgarde to V3i). Even though my breathing (COPD & ASTHMA) is still an issue I NEEDED to get out with the V.
I did notice a big difference in the field strength with that DD coil vs the XLT with the 9.5" coil. I can't get any closer than 24-28" to swings, large pipe or post. That V must be throwing out a filed that is 3-4ft as it sees the bottom of swings as well! I'll have to learn to control the RX and sensitivity settings on the fly.
Overall I am very comfortable with the machine. Using the XLT for years makes the transition easier. I did some programming on the XLT (modified the relic program that came with it) I used that modified program 90% of the time. So I made some changes to the factory Coin/Jewelry adding tone ID and changing the bottle cap rejection. The stability is fine in our alkaline soil so far.
When hunting the VDIs are very close to what I am used to on the XLT except the Zincolins come in lower as a rule. That is fine as it gets more separation between them and silvers.
The headphones are heavy but the wireless makes that a minor burden to bear. The weight is about the same as the XLT so I feel little if any difference in weight. The balance is a WHITES.
Depth and VDI seem to be very accurate. On the XLT I would expect the depth to be 1/2-3/4 shallower than displayed. I think the coil design contributed to that more than the software in the XLT. Pinpointing is spot on as it was on the XLT. I need more experience with the DD to perfect my pinpointing with it but I am pleased so far. One addition I know I'll need is a smaller concentric coil for this beast. It will fit my type of hunting better. The DD will let me cover some ground for sure but isn't practical for tot lots.
Some nice things about the hunt was it did find a small child's ring and a small 14K gold earring (I mean small LOL) plus the clad I expected. Depth was good and if you get a repeating signal DIG IT! the V seems to lock on good targets pretty well and trashy targets it tends to go all over the place as far as ID and signagraph readings.
Overall I know I have hours and hours of learning ahead of me and am looking forward to my learning curve improvement. I have the added advantage of having several club members with the V and hunt with a dealer that packs a V as well. I'll be asking and watching these guys for sure.
