Hello All, I use a Titan 2000xd and was wondering if anyone knew of a way to install small led lights on my detector for night time use and wondering if there was a way to create some type of backlighting for the screen of my detector so it would be visable at night? It would be nice to mount a day/night switch that would leave the backlight on the screen and leds off during the "day mode" then in "night mode" silence the external speaker and use the led to indicate a hit and have the lighting for the screen come on in night mode as well. Any ideas would be greatly appriciated or a link to a site that might sell such a kit. Thanks in advance

Anybody?????????

I like the idea someone had of the keychain LED on a binder clip with Velcro to help hold it.

I have a head/hat mounted 4-6-8 (depending how bright you want it) LED light that is great for working with your hands (like night fishing or lugging crap to the barn after dark). It's about the size of a 35mm film canister. They've gotten tiny lately.

That is a great idea! My problem is my detector only has an external speaker thats pretty loud, I was hoping for more stealth by having a small led light coming on at night instead of the loud speaker to tell me when the detector has a hit?

Somewhere I have seen a little device that plugs into the earphone jack and lights up instead of the headphone beep. I'll hunt that up for you.

Here's how to make one:

WOW, thats an awesome article Charlie. Believe it or not though, my detectoris probably the only one on Earth without an external head phone jack, just an external speaker. I might just have to crack it open and do some experimenting? I wonder why there are no companies that offer a "stealth" option? For night hunting without making noise?

I doubt that. Someone else must have bought the other one. :D

Every detector I've used to date and every one I've seen, had a headphone jack.

Its either wire in a headphone jack and wear headphones, or a pair of ear buds, or go with an infrared viewer, which still requires a light source of some sort. Or both.

For $1 you can get tubes of glow sticks from places like Micheals crafts, Toys R Us, etc. They work great for night hunting and you cant beat the price.

There are a large number of DIY LED light projects on websites like; www.instructables.com and others. Here's one example of a bike light:

If you wanted to avoid charging batteries and spent awhile out in the sun during the day, you could grab several solar powered "path" lights and dissect them for parts. Most of the ones I've seen have all the electronics in the top couple of inches of the housing; solar panel on top, electronics below that, then the battery and light beneath that. You could improvise any number of configurations for recharging by putting the solar panels on a hat and maybe building in a switch to conserve battery life when not in use at night, etc...

I was actually thinking of getting some of these lights to modify for my travel trailer. Just mount them with the solar panel against the window and the trailer would have night lights all night, or build in a motion sensor and have them come on when there is movement inside, (or outside), the trailer, without draining the batteries in the trailer. Might keep the varmints that skulk about at night at bay too.

Here's a couple LED lights I just got. The first one is just a 5 LED clip on light. Twist to turn on. The second picture is the light in action in the dark, and the third pic is a caplight that just slips on a cap. Two modes: on all the time or blinking mode. Push button on and off. Hope this helps.

nice setup mike

i do a lot of night hunting.....
what i do is just use headphones, and a key chain light, only when pinpointing and digging, tonal id only......i don't walk around with lights burning......that is kind of strange from afar.

i think a LED digger would be nice.....

only thing about night hunting with headphones on....you tend to get freaked out a lot :happy2:

Thanks Tank

might be the one Diggemall ,the pic X=Terra had up looks like it plugs into the head phone jack, but the ebay link was dead.
