Hi all,

Normally on the Whites forum as I own the MXT300. Had it for about a year now. Wouldn't say it's a great machine. Very, very good, yes. But, my question concerns the Ace250. I've heard it can rival machines costing 4 times as much with no problem. I've also heard that it can go to a max depth of 8 to 10 inches if cranked to the max on a good day. Also heard it is a coin and jewelry MONSTER.

So, should I jump in and make the purchase? Or is all the hype just that, hype. A LOT of folks swear by them. Others say they are a good back-up machine.

Curious as to what you actual users have to say. 100% unbiased feedback. The good, the bad and yes, even the ugly. $200 for me, as for most people is a lot of money. Your feedback will be the ultimate decision. Thanks.

Hi, I just wanted to add something abut the Ace 250. My old detecter is a Garrett Master Hunter 5 and me son got me an Ace 250 for Christmas. I am truly amazed at the tiny targets that I have found with it. I have found flat buttons in fields that are the same diameter as a half dime and I have never found anything tiny that was a good item with my older Garrett. I found a tiny silver(925) heart charm at a playground that came in as foil. I love the pinpoint feature when you can get it to detune itself, but I have had a few episodes of that being off. Most of the time though it was right on the money! Also my older detecter ran off of 6 nine volt batteries for about 25 hours, and the ace will give you that with just 4 AA batteries. I love the one I have! Good Luck :icon_thumright:

once again it is good for tot lots and yes good for tiny objects in tot lots. But what about small items deeper than bark chips? I have dug BB's and the .177 caliber lead pellets with my x-70 in yards.

All I am saying is you don't want to downgrade from an MXT to an ace you will be very unhappy.

I've more than paid for mine a couple of times over in the few of
years I've had it in change I've found when we've been at the beach
one week out of each year. I've found a few relics, found a large cent
when other more expensive machines were stumbling all over it. It's
easy just to throw batteries in it, cut it on, and go. I'm not used to
anything you have to tune in when you get to a site, so I really don't
have anything else to compare it to. I really like mine a lot.

I have been using my ACE250 for a year and a half. I hunt parks,Homesites ball fields, creek beds, seashore and where ever else I can. I have stock and large coil. Using the large coil I turn the sensivity down to two or three then go real slow. Found 1953 half, under 12" of bark and an additional 4-5" of hardpan. (Packed Soil). deepest I have found anything. I have paid for my detector. In trash areas I use the 6x9 coil. Yes at times the noise will drive you to distraction. That is when I go to coin mode and use the discrimination / elimination features. At an old sawmill site I found silver and gold items as well as old relics of iron. At our club hunt I held my own and out hunted many higher end machines. If you are going under high tension, I got so much falsing that it was not worth the effort. However someone else here said turn down the sensivity and they were able to successfully hunt. I am going to try that. The wet salt sand has been a challenge. I still haven't mastered that yet and there have been many comments that this machine will not do well there. That is one limitation that your mxt should have a leg up on the ace250. I hope these comments help and dont confuse you. HHHH

I have done well and been able to dig the smallest of objects, just like the buckshot piece I dug yesterday at 6 inches. Done well on all kinds of coins and tokens to LC's. Dug silver and gold rings too. For 200 bucks it's a great machine.

I have to say that in trashy ares it does go crazy with all the noise. That is one downside to the machine. I use the 12inch excellerator coil. Once again you just can't beat the price of the detector and what you can find once you master it.

I think its pretty straight forward. Any machine on the market will find the targets within the first 3-5 inches, if the targets are actually there. The key is to find a machine that can detect the deeper targets. The Ace will detect the deeper targets, but its no competition when compared to a higher end machine. Your problem with the Whites being to heavy is a common issue. I've owned an XLT and a M6, and I had the same problem, they wore my arm out. So, if your just doing basic park and beach hunts, the Ace will work fine. For the more serious field hunts, i'd stick with your Whites.

The Ace 250 is my first and only machine and I love it. Easy to learn and use, but may at times be slightly off center when detecting silver. I am going for the larger search coil so I can get past 8". Other than that it is relatively accurate when searching for coins and jewelry. For beaches use 2-3 bars discrimination, on hard ground 4-5 will work fine.

Miy ACE 250 is one of my first detecotors that I really fell in love with. I have several but the Ace is my ace in the hole so to speak. I took my ACE 250 out and loaned it to my friend and I used a thousand dollar detector. He found a platinum wedding band and I found junque. I have to say most of my good finds I have found with the ACE. It is good for a bout 6" consistently, occasionally about 8 or 9 if the conditions are just right. Monty

Had one once.My first good detector.Found more jewlry with it that all the detectors ive had so far in a short time owning it. Just ordered another. Cant wait to use it again. Have seen some good finds with it. Regret having sold mine. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

I might add a PS. I just sent my Minelab Safari back to get it checked out. The ACE 250 is now my go to detector. I installed the 13" coil this morning and now I am ready to hit the dirt again. Like someone else said, this is the only detector I have that I wouldn't sell! Monty
