Ace 250 VS Tesoro Compadre

If you are new to detecting I would go with the Silver. Better learning tool than having a detector with a screen.

I have had both and much prefer the Ace 250. I love knowing about how deep it is and once it is set I don't have to keep moving the nob to figure out what it might be. Also, the Compadre is really loud and only makes one sound. The Ace is less annoying and you can tell by the type of sound if it is probably junk. I sold my Compadre and bought a Garrett ProPointer which is AWESOME. Good Luck!

You can tell approx. depth and what sounds like junk by that tone. The tone changes. As Iron Patch has said in many posts, learn the detector you are using.

The Ace 250 VS Compadre is not a fair comparison. The Ace is $200+ and the Compadre is $151.20.

Lots of people out there have nice used Compadres for sale for about $100-$115 shipped.

The Compadre is a great detector for tiny gold and medium depth coins.

But the Silver uMax is Tesoros best deal because it's potentially as deep as all the Tesoro models when fitted with the right coil. And you do have a decent assortment of coils from which to choose.

The Compadre has a wired on coil so there are no coil options.

Personally I'd go with either a new or used Silver uMax.

I think the Ace is also a good machine but I think you'll find a lot more with a Silver uMax or one of the earlier model Tesoros in the same category (Cutlass II, Silver Sabre, etc.,).

Everyone seems to want to compare different products to the ACE 250. It looks like the ACE 250 has become the industry standard. But that is Ok by me as I have owned my ACE 250 nearly since the day it first came out. It and my Tesoro SilverUmax are the only two of my several detectors I would not want to sell. I have a very expensive one with most of the bells and whistles but I could get along without it if necessary. My old ACE very rarely lets me down as does the Umax. Both are fairly simple and easy to operate and will go as deep as I have the energy to dig most of the time. Just an observation and a couple of otherwise prejudiced comments. Monty
