I was out today at the local park, turned on my machine, and it just would not stop dinging and the display was jumping all over. Even if I was holding it straight up in the air. Was there some kind of interference there or something? I tried turning it off and starting over, took out the batteries, and also retuned it. Even disconnected the coil and reconnected it. Still was messed up. Any thoughts? This had happened before but then on the next trip, everything was fine.

My sovereign does that around high tension wires.

Mmmmm, try a different location. Low batteries will make it go crazy too, but you tried good ones so we can rule that out. Water in a coil will also make it go crazy like that. So, it's either the coil, or the electronics if everything else in order. If at all possible, try another coil, if not, call Garrett - Hobby Division Toll Free: 1-800-527-4011 (U.S.A. and some parts of Canada only). Ask for Melinda or Sue. Garrett customer service is the BEST!

Called Garrett and they said to send back the coil and they would replace it for free. Nice.

good chance its the location (good at one spot but not at another)-- buried or above ground high power lines --EMF feild---most likely unless coils went bad---- aslo high mineral ground can make presets type machines go batty--(lower sen level to 2-3 bars often helps on the 250 at beaches & other high mineral areas )

if spot a is good -- then spot b is bad then spot c is later on good --spot B most likey has a bad emf feild most likely -- it might be a large below ground cable where you can not see it . the power feild (leakage) from the electric cable messes up the electric feild that the detecor uses to find stuff --so its ding ding ding --crazy

on freq shiftible or manually ground balancible detector adjustments can sometimes be made -- for preset GB models (most of tthe cheaper models -- except the BH landstar) theres lower the sen / power and /or up the disc level --thats all you can do .

I don't care what anyone else says, it was them little grey alien fellas, I seen em causing problems like this afore. Just gotta get a dead cat see. Then you go out at midnight and swing dat cat three times around your head while howling at the moon like a wolf. Then see, you gotta spit twice, stomp the ground six times while spinning left. Now make sure you spin left otherwise the missus might end up pregnant. :tard:

I think it must have been the location. I tried another spot in the same park and everything was ok. Also ok at other places I have been. BUT, it was still nice to know that Garrett would have replaced it with no hassles.

The signals you were getting I got the other day ( thing was freaking out! ) with my ACE150 and found it was caused by the lead from the coil was loose, forming large loops and not tight against the steam.
Might be the same prob...just thinkin'
