Ace 250 questions

This question can not be answered correctly as a lot depends on the size coil, ground matrix, moisture in the soil, type of metal and any nearby trash. Tack on variables like differences in coil windings, Sensitivity differences and the color socks your wearing. But most will tell you a detector will reach for a coin about the depth as the coil is wide. This is in gereral.

It is more important to overlap your swings and keep the coil even with the ground.

Hello everyone
I am interested in buying an ace 250. I want to see if any of you guys can tell me how deep this detector can go for coins. If any of guys can answer my question it would be greatly appreciated.

I did some air tests with different coins in COIN Mode, at 4 BARS (50%) and 8 BARS (100%) SENSITIVITY, standard coil. I got the following results:

Penny at 5.5" for 4 BARS and 9" for 8 BARS
Nickel at 5.75" for 4 BARS and 8.75" for 8 BARS
Dime at 5.5" for 4 BARS and 8" for 8 BARS
Quarter 6" for 4 BARS and 8.5" for 8 BARS
Half at 6.5" for 4 BARS and 9.5" for 8 BARS
Dollar at 7.5" for 4 BARS and 10.5" for 8 BARS

I verified that I get the same results in ground for freshly buried coins. You will get greater depth for coins that have been buried for a long time.

In practice, I have never found a coin more than 4" deep. Most coins will be at 6" or less. I am very happy with my Ace 250...it is a GREAT COIN DETECTOR!!

Thanks for all the advice! ;D
I have a question for you bobm31
You said you never dug any coins over 4 inches in the ground. Were any of these coins keepers or just clad?

I have dug coins at about 8" with mine in places where there was not much trash. That is correct though, most at about 4" or less. If you get the "Pro" model it comes with the larger coil which should give you a bit more depth. Finding the "good" coins is not a matter of how deep you can go rather more a matter of where you search. Finding coins other than clad is becoming more and more difficult with any detector. You can't just go out to the park and expect to find silver anymore. Your have to do a lot of research and find places where they are undisturbed and not hunted to death. Your ACE 250 will have plenty of depth for 99.9% of all your hunting needs. Monty

Thanks Monty for the wonderful information!
I cant wait till I buy it. Im getting the ace 250 pro with the extra rhino coil that you were talking about.

I have found one silver dime, three REAL nickels, and several COPPER pennies...I keep ALL coins. The places that I have searched so far yield mostly clad.

you made a good choice Ben. yeah the ace isn't the deepest machine on the block, but it is more than adequate and you should have no trouble reaching down to at least 6".i have found quite a few oldies with mine in a relatively short period of time.its a superb machine for the $$

Deeper than I would like to dig!
I live outside of New Orleans, and the soil is clay and very hard.

But to answer your question, I have detected coins to 8" without any problems with my Ace250.
And that is with sensitivity set at 3/4 of maximum. I can run the sensitivity up to max without any problems in this location.

I think most ACE 250 users run the machine at 4 or 5 bars although you can go up higher on the sensitivity. When I run mine up I don't get a lot of falsing, rather a lot of chatter from other targets that might be nearby the one I am zeroing in on. Some people don't mind the chatter, but it bugs me so I crank it down most of the time. If you like coin shooting, try the 4 1/2" coil along the edge of sidewalks for a mostly untapped bonanza. Monty

That depends on the soil conditions in your area and what size coil you use. It will equal detectors costing three times as much. You can expect 8-10 inches with the stock coil.
