Ace 150 vs. Ace 250

I posted this in a similar post........

The difference as said is less segments and the lack of a pin-pointer. What makes the 250 a great machine?........all those useful segments, but most importantly, the pin-pointer......I'd be lost without it. The Pin-pointer is half of the machine, trust me. It does and can tell you alot more than just pin-pointing. If it's only going to be for property owners, heck, go with the 150, but if it's for you or for friend's to use, be a good friend and get 250!

People who say the pin-pointer is useless or ineffective have one of several problems 1) They have not taken the time to teach themselves to use it because 2) You have to learn how the 250 pin points for many objects under different depth conditions and varying nearby trash situations......and that takes time. I'm still learning after 7 months. Read on..........the best way to put it is that the 250's sweet spot is variable. My best advice is to avoid concentrating on finding a sweet spot and concentrate more on picturing the X grid you are working and trying to narrow down the picture as you work the coil in PP mode. Pin pointing aside, the pin pointer is worth gold in the sense that it can 1) Easily clue you off to junk. 80% of the time, caps, small junk, soda bottles etc, have a really scratchy static sound that does not come close to the short whines a coin would make. The sound of a coin coming from the PP'er is almost unmistakeable. 2) The depth reading while in PP mode is more accurate 3) Sweeping in PP mode gives you a much better idea of the size of the object while sweeping over it than the signals or rings you get while not in PP mode. You can easily scratch or outline things for a good size estimate with the PP'er. I tell you, the PP'er is half the machine.

The 150 does not have the notch in or out button. I use that all the time. I really don't know why the 150 is made other than a lower price point. I would not own a 150 unless I was converting it to a fresh water wading machine. But the 250 could do that.
