Metal Detecting
Went out to the woods for a bit today and gave it shot. I wasn't in the woods more than 10 minutes and on the third hole I dug I found a sweet surprise. Had a nice dime signal about 4" down and when I popped the plug back I found this lil guy staring up at me. He had buried himself in the ground...I'm guessing to nest for the winter? Turns out my signal was just a piece of soda can, but I thought this was a pretty unusual metal detecting find. Especially to find it under the ground. Seen 'em on top before, but never underground. :)

Turns out the 4 hours didn't amount to much in the woods today. Only good keeper was this buckle. Found a '42 D wheatie as well, but didn't take a pic of it. Hope you're all finding the goods!

Happy Hunting!

-Nate

It's a Rough Green Snake. I didn't know either and then I did a search on Google for "Green Snake" and found it. It's common in the Southeastern U.S. and feeds on crickets, mealworms, waxworms and unsuspecting metal detectorists! :tongue3:

from the green snake mr why are you taking my buckle ?

I bet the snake was pissed!

Thanks! Surprised the cell phone took a quality photo like that.

Very cool surprise DD.
I dug a small one up last week too. Nonpoisonous thank God. A Black snake I believe. :icon_scratch: Saw a turtle in the woods yesterday, and had a tick on me Thursday. Come on winter! :laughing9:
Congrats on the buckle recovery.

When do those damn ticks die off for the year? I had one on me a couple weeks ago when I came outta the woods. Nasty lil buggers!

beautiful snake!
thanks so much for the pic.
i miss seeing the green snakes here in ny.

yep a green snake alright! cant tell if its rough or smooth, but harmless either way. love snakes!

That's awesome! Were you able to cover him back up a bit? Hope survives okay. Sometimes we turn up toads in the ground here. HH!

Yeah, I was turning turf over a few weeks back and I flipped over what I thought was just bark.
I looked over again and it was a frog that was stiff as wood, and as I nudged him a few times I saw a pulse.
They must be hibernating for the Winter...cold blooded and all.
