A surprise insulator on a path....

Mine was used on a payphone ot toll phone? theres none of them around here that i know of, i dont think a toll phone would have been in the woods behind my house? then again it used to be forest up till the road. I knew it had no monetary value, just historical, which is fine for me

Jake, I once found some clear glass insulators on what use to be an old Western Union telegraph line between two small towns. They were flat on top and hollow inside so I turned them over and they made excellent candle holders. We still use them if a storm knocks out the power! MONTYl

thats a really cool find jake! they may not be worth a lot of cash,but they sure look good on a knick knack shelf. that green color is really cool. nice find!

Thanks guys!! Good idea jim Mine wouldnt make that good candleholders though I already have a mini collection of these things, have a dozen or so in my closet I know where a few are in the town next to me in the woods. They are some interesting ones from the 40's i think, but i need tools to get em off the pole. Dont worry its not a standing pole! its an old discarded one that went to a building thats long since gone...funny though i never found anything good there

In my experience they are semi-standardized to simply screw onto a wooden pre-threaded dowel
sticking out of the arm on the pole. With wood shrinking some with age, I never needed any tools to get
them off, a few simple twists and voila, down to the ground I dropped em, hehe.

Now that is a cool find! I love those old glass insulators! Most of 'em in my area are all green, but they are still very cool! some of those babies are worth some BIG $$$$, too!

I have a few including a black rubber one and the wooden piece they were screwed on to. My dad told me they used to shoot them with 22's when he was a teenager. It was kind of funny that ten years after at the age of about 25 he was a lineman in the Airforce and a lot of what he did was replace broken insulators. Go figure.
