HI GUYS AND GALS

FINALLY !!!

A super nice day to go hunting. Just a long sleeve shirt...no gloves !!! ....................+6 degrees and sunny !!

Decided to try hunting most of the day in DISCRIM MODE ...the hot rocks are bad in this place for ALL METAL.

Came across the copper button up high on the beach... the nicest one to date for a copper button...very pleased to have it !!

Moved down the beach half way to low water and hit another high tone...was happy to see the target was flat...covered in mud. Knew it was must be a coin or button...then seen that it was too thick to be a coin and seen a pattern on the outside edge !!!

Was then grinning and excited as I knew it was a MILITARY BUTTON !!!

Intact and in very good shape....but I,m not totally sure of the number.... is it a 5 ?

The Military button thats on the banner is a 57 .......this button is only half the size of the Banner 57 one.

Nicely done...I saw you and ED down there and tried to hook up at the wharf...you were gone by the time I get there!

You were out for a hunt also ?

Thought maybe we would run into you today...such a nice day figured you would be out somewhere.

Gotta hook up sometime for a hunt and I,ll give you that frag and the bottom to that ink scrapper.

No, I was out with my little man for a cruise...may get out tomorrow if I can shake this damn cold...

Digging those old buttons buddy. Sure looks like a 5 but also kinda looks like a 6. Every time I blow it up I just confuse myself more. Nice old looking button. It was a beautiful day

I can see 57 quite clearly from the picture.
So now you've got a pair of 57s, and both sizes, that's a bonus.

Ok ty for looking..

So what does that mean...why is it so much smaller ?

Would they both have been on the same uniform ?

You clearly have found a coat button earlier and this one is a cuff button from the sleeve, another great find!

Definitely a 5...57th Regiment...nice find!

ok good..ty

the 5 seems to be of a different design than on the other buttom..the top part of it....throws me off.

I,m still learning obviously ...I love the history of this stuff.

Ok..ty IRON H ..

Thats what I was thinking ..... only seemed to make sense.

So is this normal for most types of military buttons ?... 2 different sizes per uniform or is there a 3rd size ?

Depending on rank, uniforms had varying amounts of buttons; collars, lapels, cuffs, the split seams, hats, etc, some may have had several sizes, and different ranks would have different sizes, and different sizes for different makers at different times

there are many books on the single subject of buttons, that's why it's a interesting subject in and of itself, and therefore not easily explained in just a few paragraphs

I'm not a button "expert" by any means, I've dug quite a few and have seen lots of variations of themes and designs, and I am always learning about them myself

Very cool finds!

Cool you have the cuff to go with it. Another one in your case!

The bigger one has me curious. You should cleaned that dirt off with some soap and water and post again.

Hi IP

It already has been cleaned....even when wet I can,t see much for a pattern if any IN THE MIDDLE ...on the button......however it is more clear when wet....I,ll post a pic of it tomo while it is wet.

I have found a few copper buttons..but this is the first with a pattern on it.
