Tried to get an early start today but the bed wouldn't let go until about 7:00 - I had planned on getting out around 5:30 but couldn't secure permission the night before, and eventually I got a "NO" on that place anyway. Since the weather has turned hot and dry, the "YES" rate for new permissions has plummeted, so today I stuck to vacant lots and did OK considering the conditions.
Started off just a couple blocks from "Silver Street" and on the second signal pulled a 1963 Rosie. Thought it was going to be a red letter day but this was to be the only silver for today's efforts.
I did manage to shoot some decent video with the Pivotheads and remembered to keep most of the action centered as long as the battery lasted. Kept it in Full Tones using the control box speaker, as using the WS5 phones would have been very sweaty - I'm in MONO with these anyway maybe it's time to send them to Moe for repair...
Didn't get to film much at the second location due to the battery life; I uncovered a dateless Buffalo nickel and just a few inches away came a 1920 Wheat - these were the only two OLD coins for the day...near the end of the hunt I got a loud "87" and decided to dig - out came a neat ST. Louis compact made by Wadsworth - these were popular in the 1930s - 1950s.
Both places boasted shade and fairly easy digging - so if nothing else I can revisit these places even if no permissions line up.
Could REALLY use a DEUS multi-frequency sniper coil in these areas since bulldozers churn up all kinds of things...time will tell!
