So it was one of those hunts where you are glad to see a memorial. a lot of pull rings and tabs. wire, foil, can slaw etc. Ended up with one wheatie and a 1968 25 cent from the Philippines. thought that I had a war nickle for a moment but no. a couple of clad dimes, two memorials rounded it out...oh wait, the military 30-06 brass was something from the WWII finds found here. Still very wet but it is what it is. I call these hunts, reality hunts because they make up a lot of our hunts. They also make your good finds so much more meaningful to you when you find them. But I really prefer not to have very many of them if possible LOL. I did get to break in a new pair of overalls. Good luck All. DL

Iffy signals... I'm old and only have so many up's and down's before the ground swallows me up. But, for some reason I dug a target at about 2 inches last Saturday and it was a 1898 Barber dime. I seldom dig shallow targets.

totally understand the limited number of ups and downs. After so many, I quit everything except a solid high number. I usually go back to those that I skipped and dig them too but it may be a trip or two. my second walker was in a coin spill less than an inch deep, too much clay and rocks in that spot.

This is my favorite thread! So glad I'm not the only one. 3 hours Sunday for two clad quarters ground still frozen hand hurts. Iron audio sounds like someone had a roofing convention in the backyard.

My goal this year is to train my self to dig more iffy signals.

oh you ain't alone by no means. anybody denying digging trash or having bad days is either lying or in a very secluded spot with no modern trash...and they still might be digging iron

Well, on my last outing I found .36 cents. One clad quarter, one clad dime, and one zincoln. I missed the clad quadfecta by one nickel, and now it's supposed to snow 12" here.

That describes the majority of my hunts. But hey, at least we're able to get out there and try! I'm thankful for that alone.

Yep...its a club we all belong to whether we like it or not. LOL I stopped showing pictures of my trash because the piles swallow up the few good finds i get. But, you got out and was able to swing. That in and of itself makes the trash worth it!

DL, this was my last hunt this past weekend..I'm SO proud...lol:

ah but I was, after about ten pull tabs etc, I left about sixty or so similar targets in the ground and moved to another area about 75 yards away and still dug em. the 1st spot was an old parking spot and I know there has to be more than pull rings and tabs there. I'll just weed them out 10-15 at a time and move one.

Now that's a plan .

Glad you got out! :occasion14:

I also know the feeling , but you got to keep practicing brother for the big game that is right around the corner. I almost gave up on it last month, told my wife this is nuts, no where to hunt anymore and then a huge place that I could not hunt in three life times comes along after 24 years of asking owner for permission. Finally, now my old knees are aching from all the up and down. 5 gallon bucket for of trash and two buttons then coins you have never or seen are everywhere. Now my wife says, stop complaining about your knees hurting. Circle of life. Hang in there!

just got back from another hunt in that spot, no coins this time, just wire iron, some brass and of course, lots of pull rings and tabs. I did find a small chunk of a rail, similar to railroad rail but only about 4 inches tall. I can actually use it in my shop.

Not bad lots of targets makes it fun Im stiil trying to get out this year

Yep, the number of good targets 1-3 inches deep is staggering at the old courthouse. No doubt maybe 19 out of twenty is clad change, bottle caps, etc., but that 20th one or so... To bad I only have about 20 ups and downs before the meat wagon comes for me.My three best finds so far were only 2-3 inches deep.

When I get those days, I go home and watch Youtube metal detecting videos to cheer me up. No wonder I don't have time to go metal detect anymore...

I always like their faces when they ask if you found anything good and you say, "Yeah, up to 27 cents now, found another penny." Or they begin telling me how they have this detector that tells them exactly what is in the ground. Then they look at me like I am crazy when I pull out all the trash for that 27 cents. I never show them the good stuff, it was too hard earned. I keep waiting to get slim and trim from all of this up and down plus digging but I think that I am losing ground right now.

Once your body gets use to doing the same task you hit a plateau and you won’t lose anymore weight. I do a lot of walking and digging at the beach and I’m moving in the opposite direction as far as weight :BangHead:
