But it's not a coin.

Out today with a newbie, on some fields he got permission for but I figured they were hunted, and that was confirmed when we talked to the farmers. About 2 hours in with 3 down and two left to check, and down to 4 hours hunt time left I was sort of kicking myself for staying in an area I knew was hunted... but regardless I was going to check those last two fields. I eventually located a patch of iron and we began digging misc. brass and copper, nothing too old, maybe mid. 1800s. All I wanted was a simple sign it could have been a house site, at least to have some hope there was something to find... and then this thing popped out! Really couldn't believe what I was seeing, and then had to explain to my friend that I had just turned the day around in a big way.

Rev War period 24th Regiment of foot officer button.

More odds and ends that turned up. A few 1800s coppers, bayonet frog clip, Canada Militia button, watch winder, a few flat buttons and a bird band.

NICE!!!!
Heck I'd been Happy With the Boat Button.
Again --NICE!!!!

That silver is just as good if not better than a coin. I'll give you a pat on the back for not giving up on a mid 1800s site.

Bloody hell even Iron patch is posting goodies, I'll have to get out this week sometime now :laughing7:

Nice finds!!!

If it wasn't for the previous three fields having next to nothing, there was a good chance I would not have hung around long enough to dig it... especially if it would have taken another 30 minutes or so to pop out. The only other thing from in the immediate area was a ships colonies token.

Wow that would be easy to miss, by that I mean the "24" is in some scratches. Frankly if you hadn't pointed it out, it would be east to miss. Yes I am "S L O W"...well sometimes anyway.

Well, good day to you, my day was even slower with the finds.

'll bet that looked some sweet coming out of the dirt! I would consider a hunt a success just with the frog...I've yet to find one!

Nice button!! That bayonet scabbard clip would have been enough to raise my hopes. I like hunting spots that have been hunted by others. I like the challenge of finding what they missed.

Better pic up now, and even you probably wouldn't miss it now. ;)

At first glance it was sideways, but seeing it was engraved silver plate my heart skipped a beat. For some reason in the short time it took to turn it the right way I thought it was a Q and a number... like an early 1800s Queens Dragoons button or something. So needless to say I was glad when the 24 locked in.

Awesome to see the goods coming up all over the place around here! If I had to pick I'd still take my coin, just because it finally gave me a readable 1600s date, and it's huge haha. But a rev war officers button like that is pretty high on my list as well, and would make me happy for the rest of the year!

You have a nice silver there IP, and some fine digs on the side, Congrads on all.

For just a token showing up I'd guess you did very well, and proves you don't necessarily need a solid site to produce a solid find

You just never know my friend. Nice to see somebody finding silver. I'd forget what it looked like if not for this forum. Awesome piece of history bud.

It's two large fields, and there is old targets, but they are extremely scattered. Where the button came from is the only fairly concentrated patch of iron, but it was just the button and ships token that came from around there. It's very possible the iron had nothing to do with those two things, they could have been just random like everything else.

is definitely an awesome feeling pulling up them silver officers buttons ;)

Now that's a great button, you sure turned the hunt around...just imagine if the newbie found the button...that's how I felt when hunthicks found that french 1/2 ECU :BangHead:.... especially after his last years success.... I think I got a military from the last hunt but so toasty, i may never know...
