Dad made it through his surgery ok...and I thank you for all the support you gave us. He DID read my previous post and deeply appreciates all the kind thoughts you gave him.

This post was about 3 days before the surgery...and I decided to put a Minelab in his hands for a while so we could get some cherished hunt time in.

He didn't feel very good...but he did feel like swingin' the coil for a short while. :headbang:

I did give him the XLT just 2 days after this post and it was a nice surprise... especially after all the gripin' he did about my Minelabs . :laughing9:

The nite before surgery I gave it to him and we got another good hunt in..and I'll get that post up in a few days.

My Dad is a straight shooter fellers' and if he likes somethin' he'll tell ya'...and if he don't...he'll tell ya' that too :headbang:

First words out of his mouth 15 minutes into the hunt when I asked him how he liked my SE w/ Pro coil.... "This thing is too heavy":laughing9:

Second set of words out of his mouth when he was glancing at the screen and trying to figure out whether he wanted to dig a possible target or not... "This screen is BS...I can't even see it through the glare":laughing9:

30 minutes on my machine and my Dad has found the 2 biggest gripes most everyone else has about the explorers :hello2:

I decided to get a closeup shot of him after he expressed his opinions. As you can see...the look on his face shows exactly how he feels about my Minelabs. :hello2:

We spent a good solid hour looking in the area I have hit at least 100 times since 1985. Why...because I chucked my wedding band out here when I got divorced back then.....and would just like to find it for the heck of it.

Actually..again WHY?...well...so I can throw it FURTHER next time!! :headbang:

Problem is that the area is exactly where my brother and I have shot our guns over the last 20 years or so...and it is a solid carpet of .22...44 mag...45's...and .223 casings...and I mean SOLID. ???

Over the last few years I have pulled over 400 22 casings out of this 50' x 50' area while looking for the wedding band which I know for a fact is there because I watched it bounce and land.

Today was no different. I found another 14 22 casings...5 pieces of can slaw...3 wads of foil...and NO coins.

My dad...well he found the ONLY coin during the short hunt...a clad dime at about 6" or so...and trust me...he let me hear about it. :laughing9:

His comment... "Looks like you missed one Mr. Field tester" :laughing9: ;D

Some day I will find the wedding band...but today wasn't about that. It was about seeing my dad doing something he got me involved in back in the early 70's.

It was about realizing even further something that I already knew. Never take for granted the things that we enjoy doing...and never even for a split second forget what family means to you. :angel7:

Because he is weak right now...we only got to hunt for an hour at the most...but it was an hour I will always cherish. :angel7:

Thanks Pops...it was fun. :angel7:

Bryce,

Glad your dad is on the road to recovery. I agree with you and others that the hunt and pics are priceless. They will forever hold precious memories for you & your dad.

 RR

Well Bryce, what can I say Buddy...It's kinda like me and my Dad when he taught me how to play baseball, golf and search for those darn mushrooms. My Pops taught me everything and I am so glad that he is still around to "show me up" every now and again. Sure glad you got to spend some quality time together. Take it all in cause it seems like it all goes by in a flash. By the looks of the pics, he enjoyed himself just as much as you. Take care my friend and keep that coil to the ground! jgas

Good to hear your dad is doing better! I love the times I get to go hunt with my Dad.

Hey I also just got through reading your field test of the sunray x-12 coil in W&E mag. I don't own a minelab but your stories are always so interesting I always love reading them. You are a good writer and keep the reader interested.

I really loved this post..

I'm 64 years old. Born in 1946. I never really knew my father who was born in 1910 and died in 1974. I envey you and the closeness you have with your father.

Great post.
Glad your Dad made it through the surgery ok :icon_thumleft:, and I hope you 2 have a lot of great detecting time together. When I saw the expression on his face I just thought of that song " If a picture paints a thousand words", give him an Xp and then see the expression.

All the best

Thanks Ocalsix. I appreciate your kind thoughts for pops :icon_thumleft:

Yeah,

Spending time with the old man is priceless. My Dad may not be around to much longer because of the type of life he lived. It's nice when you get the chance to hunt together. My Dad is old not by todays standard of 56. But he is like 86. But in the back of my mind I know one day we won't be together. So I cherish the time when we do get out like you do.

By the way. I knew you were a big guy. But man you are towering lol. Your in good shape man.

Take care

Jer

He did have a good time...and so did I. :icon_thumleft:

Nice hunt Bryce, even though not much was found. Like you said, it was more for the time you spent with your dad. I too enjoy taking my dad out when I'm back home. He doesn't swing a coil, but he enjoys following me. He especially likes it when we can find some good stuff. Can't beat the time together. Anyways, hope your dad is on the road to recovery.

Great story Bryce ! I couldnt have written one better. It doesnt matter what brand of detecter you have or use...
cause your dad is the greatest treasure of all! I lost my mother just over a year ago, She was the last of my immediate
family. The realization hit me that if you dont have family you dont have anything at all. Some people never realize that.
God Bless you and your father and I'm glad to see he out and about and doing well.
