Dad made it through his surgery ok...and I thank you for all the support you gave us. He DID read my previous post and deeply appreciates all the kind thoughts you gave him.

This post was about 3 days before the surgery...and I decided to put a Minelab in his hands for a while so we could get some cherished hunt time in.

He didn't feel very good...but he did feel like swingin' the coil for a short while. :headbang:

I did give him the XLT just 2 days after this post and it was a nice surprise... especially after all the gripin' he did about my Minelabs . :laughing9:

The nite before surgery I gave it to him and we got another good hunt in..and I'll get that post up in a few days.

My Dad is a straight shooter fellers' and if he likes somethin' he'll tell ya'...and if he don't...he'll tell ya' that too :headbang:

First words out of his mouth 15 minutes into the hunt when I asked him how he liked my SE w/ Pro coil.... "This thing is too heavy":laughing9:

Second set of words out of his mouth when he was glancing at the screen and trying to figure out whether he wanted to dig a possible target or not... "This screen is BS...I can't even see it through the glare":laughing9:

30 minutes on my machine and my Dad has found the 2 biggest gripes most everyone else has about the explorers :hello2:

I decided to get a closeup shot of him after he expressed his opinions. As you can see...the look on his face shows exactly how he feels about my Minelabs. :hello2:

We spent a good solid hour looking in the area I have hit at least 100 times since 1985. Why...because I chucked my wedding band out here when I got divorced back then.....and would just like to find it for the heck of it.

Actually..again WHY?...well...so I can throw it FURTHER next time!! :headbang:

Problem is that the area is exactly where my brother and I have shot our guns over the last 20 years or so...and it is a solid carpet of .22...44 mag...45's...and .223 casings...and I mean SOLID. ???

Over the last few years I have pulled over 400 22 casings out of this 50' x 50' area while looking for the wedding band which I know for a fact is there because I watched it bounce and land.

Today was no different. I found another 14 22 casings...5 pieces of can slaw...3 wads of foil...and NO coins.

My dad...well he found the ONLY coin during the short hunt...a clad dime at about 6" or so...and trust me...he let me hear about it. :laughing9:

His comment... "Looks like you missed one Mr. Field tester" :laughing9: ;D

Some day I will find the wedding band...but today wasn't about that. It was about seeing my dad doing something he got me involved in back in the early 70's.

It was about realizing even further something that I already knew. Never take for granted the things that we enjoy doing...and never even for a split second forget what family means to you. :angel7:

Because he is weak right now...we only got to hunt for an hour at the most...but it was an hour I will always cherish. :angel7:

Thanks Pops...it was fun. :angel7:

WOW That's awesome Bryce, Glad you and your Dad got to hunt. That is priceless !!!! Have a good one and glad your Dad is doing better.

Why not shorten the shaft so that he isn't swinging it 8' away from his body? That would lighten it up a considerable amount.

Glad to here you Dad came through surgery OK. I will keep your Dad and you in my prayers.
Doug

Great Post! Glad to see your Dad is doing well. Sounds like he knows what he likes in detectors. Minelabs are fine but not my cup of tea either.

Silver.....glad to see that your Dad is up and around after surgery.....that is the best thing he can do for himself...believe me, I know....TH'ing just makes it that much more pleasureable. In a few months I hope you have trouble keeping up with him! :icon_thumleft:

Great story, but please tell me that you really dont leave all your junk, i.e., brass, blanketing the ground?
Not much difference between that and the soda tabs that most of us curse about... And you know, people will buy used brass to reload with?
Okay, done preaching...

Your dad sounds a lot like mine. He says whats on his mind. :laughing7:

Congrats on a great day spent out.

I own the property and it is a shooting range...and has been for over 20 years....so yes...a gazillion casings...mostly 22's blanket the ground. It was my choice and right to leave them there.

Thanks Wayne. These photos were actually taken during the hunt about 3 days before the surgery. He can't lift more than 5 pounds for the next 5 weeks.

Ummm.....because he had elbow surgery a few weeks prior...and it is set in the only position which allows him to hold it.

Bryce , you are a lucky man.

Glad your dad is ok and able to get out. From his comments he sounds a lot like my dad. You never have to wonder what they are thinking because they will tell you in no uncertain terms

Tell him someone in Denver who he's never heard of, said hey.
Kudos.
