Went back into the steamy woods today on a hunt for relics. Not many targets but the results included all the types I was looking for: 2 flat buttons (one is tombac), an 1896 IHC (I think), a toasted Georgian copper weighing 8.6g, a roundball, and the best find being a bridle rosette. The rosette is 2 and a quarter inches in diameter and weighs 75.4g. If you know rosettes would you venture an approximate date for this one? Thanks!

Thanks Trezurehunter. Found those two buttons quite a distance from the rosette. Also found large metal pieces and a plow blade that I left behind.

McCdig, Congrats to you on the finds of the buttons and the bridle rosette. Great saves and Continued Success to you.

Thanks Hawks88. Since the area is used today chiefly by hikers and mountain bikers in particular, it is interesting that on the hunt Tuesday I found exactly 3 of the knurled nuts that secure a bikes innertube stem to the wheel rim. You can count on the Equinox to find the small stuff as well as a relatively massive object as the rosette.

Thanks devldog. Right now the majority of the site is covered in foot talk indigeous weedy grass. The stuff seems to everywhere here in Maryland. Upside is there are no briars. You just have to watch for the fallen tree limbs hidden my the grass.

Thanks Blak bart. Wow, beachcombing the Keys! Happy hunting and good luck.

Thanks creskol. Agreed. The pattern of twelve symmetry, size and weight make this a substantial rosette. It's basically a flat relief design, not domed like some.

Thanks Davers. I'm sure you have some good memories of hunting that camp.

Oh yes , it was a memorable couple years hunting that site, I still hit it 1 or 2 times a year ( I may get a Sharps .52 drop or a 'Suspicious .22 cal Drop W/O Reeds in their groves ). Hmmmm???

HH -In the MD era. :icon_thumright:

Sorry I forgot to mention the buttons , I've only dug about 4-5 in 20+ years ? (sounds crazy even to me + I've never dug a Large Cent ???).

Nice hunt I like hunting the woods as long as you got some sqeeeeter repellent ect Nice rosette

Thanks Tommy. Yep, 40% DEET spray on boots and lower pants legs, shirtsleeves, and cap when I go in. It's worked so far.

Great Rosette. That would have been a fancy horse.

Thanks mbcuce. Haven't found much horse tack here yet, so that was an amazing piece to find. To see something that large and silver-colored come form down deep had me scratching my head at first. The weight and hook on the back lead me to the right conclusion.

Purple Haze in my brain.
I have only found around 4- 5 'flat buttons ' ; I have a few nice mid-late 1800's , tho only a few flat, ones .

I just had to fix my error ,lol
